I awoke well before Caesar and Cornelius, the sun had barely breached the horizon. The air crisp with cold, but I was warm in the cocoon of furred bodies. Sometime during the night Cornelius had turned around and wrapped himself around me, like an ape octopus. With Caesar holding me to his chest, For the first time in a long time, I woke up...happy.

Unfortunately I wasn't one of those people to stay in bed until 10:00pm, so after about 5 minutes of laying in the furry heaven, I was itching to get up. Gently untangling Cornelius arms from around me, and then unwrapping Caesar from behind me. I began to wrap them around one another, once they had both settled. I crawled over them and out of the bed.

Putting on my boots, not bothering tying them up, I walk outside. I want to cry at the fact that I have to wash my hands in the cold water from the troff to make breakfast. Quickly doing this weird dipping/silent screaming thing I dry my hands on my pants feeling the cold sink into my bones. Shivering I walk into the meat shed to collecting some salted meat for breakfast. Quickly deciding that before going inside that some vegetables would be nice to have with the meat, so I walk to my vegetable garden, looking upon the half grown chaos, for something eatable.
"Only squash" I mutter looking up at the sky, shaking my hands dramatically. Sighing I take three nice looking ones and walk back inside, happy to move from the cold.

Making my way into the kitchen, I placed the meat on the bench and drop the squash, evilly smiling when they bounced and almost rolled off the bench. Turning back to the oven, and thanking for the millionth time to whom ever owned this place that they left the old wood burning oven in, not even wanting to think about standing outside in the morning cold to cook breakfast.

Squatting down I open the fire door, and light it, being carful not to catch alight the stray wool coming from my jumper. Collecting a pan and pot, both of which were hanging from the roof, I place them on the oven letting everything heat up. Then I take a cloth, putting it over the meat to let it rest until I'm able to cook it.

Just as I was about to walk outside, to my fresh water 'tank' (now when I say tank, I mean something more like small bucket,) to get water to boil the squash in, I hear a shout, and someone fall out of bed. Rushing to my room, worried that Cornelius had been the one to fall out of bed, I ran straight into Caesar, literally.

Stumbling back before slipping onto my ass, I stare up at Caesar in worry, " What happened?! Is Cornelius okay?!" I say hurried, scrambling to get to my feet.
"What? No his fine, I thought you left" he said, helping me up.
"Leave? It's my house." I replied, watching him tick over the information that I gave him.
"....oh..." he said extremely flushed, turning away from me.
Not being able to help myself I start laughing, "I-I can't" i stutter out through tears.
"It was an honest mistake" he said, although he looked like he was trying to convince himself more then he was trying to convince me.
"Okay, okay" I say, chuckling through my last spurts of laughter.
I smile happily at him, "do you wanna help me cook breakfast?" I ask, holding out a hand
"It would be my honor" he said dramatically, taking my outstretched hand in his.

Walking hand in hand to the kitchen, I can see that the pan is hot enough to cook the meat meaning that the pot was hot enough to boil water.
"Hey, could you go outside, and by the side closest to the vegetable garden there is a water bucket. Could you bring it inside?" I ask, nudging him towards the door.
"Of course" he replied, before making his way outside.

After watching him walk out, I go to the kitchen to take the cloth off the meat when I heard Cornelius panicked hooting. Speed walking down to my room, this time watching for someone coming at me. I don't know whether I was fortunate to not have him come to me, I guess that must mean he was freaking out. I mean he did wake up alone in a strange place, I would do the same.

Opening the door to my bedroom I was all but tackled to the floor by the tiny ape. Clinging onto me, despite the fact that we only met last night.
"Hey, hey, hey" i murmur to him, in the hope that my voice will bring him some comfort.
"Your okay" I whisper, wrapping him tight in my arms so that he is surrounded by me.
"Your fine, dove. You at my house, your daddy is just outside" I say softly, feeling him mellow out, even though his arms still grasp at my chest.

He begins to softly hoot at me, looking up at me with those big green eyes.
"Would you like to help me make breakfast, Cornelius?" I ask him, even though he can't answer me. I let my feet follow the path back down the hallway to the kitchen, with Cornelius still clinging to my torso, his hand threaded into my knitted jumper and his feet holding onto the pockets of my pants. I slowly remove my arms from him, because I need two hand to prep the meat. Watching to see if he can hold himself up by his own strength, honestly I don't even think he noticed I removed my arms, too preoccupied with looking at the kitchen.

Smiling at him I begin to cut it into thin slices to help it cook all the way through, i lay them down in the pan (, I watch Cornelius closely because he just wants to touch everything), making sure to flip them constantly to stop them from burning.

Just as I begin to wonder we're Caesar has gotten off to I feel muscular furred arms wrap around my torso, that and hearing Cornelius hoot happily. I smile but don't turn around, feeling him gently nose at the back of my head.
"What are you doing?..." I ask softly, not wanting to disrupt the peaceful atmosphere that has been created.
"I missed you.." he muttered, migrating from the back of my head down to my left shoulder, looking over it at Cornelius.

"He was freaking out" I explain, "he woke up and started hooting and crying" I continued, looking at Caesar.
"It's fine" he said smiling at Cornelius who smiled even wider back at him. I begin to pull Cornelius off my torso to pass to Caesar, but was stopped by his hands.
"He can stay with you, I think he needs a woman's touch" he murmured, taking a step back from us. I turn my head, following him with my eyes, watching him pick up the bucket of water that I asked him to get.

"Where would you like me to put this, Krista" Caesar asked me.
"Oh if you could pour the water into this pot that would be amazing" I replied, pulling the pot forward before stepping away from the oven.
"Oh and only put in enough water to fill it about half way" I say quickly, while he was pouring it in.
Once he was done, he walks outside again to put the bucket back, ready for the next time it rains.

I then cut the squash into quarters, laughing at Cornelius disgusted moan.
"Hah I'm with you there buddy!" I say, putting the squash quarters into the pot of boiling water. I plate the meat after seasoning it, walking it over to the small table that is placed between the lounge room and the kitchen and setting the plate down. As soon as I set the plate down Cornelius wiggles and squeaks, wanting to be put down. I do as he wished but gave a fair warning that if any food was gone, I was gonna be mad.

Walking back into the kitchen to drain the squash, I bump into Caesar.
"Is the food almost ready?" He asks me, following me back to the kitchen.
"Yeah I just put the meat down on the table, just coming back to get the squash" I said, smiling at him.
"Oh I love squash" he said happily, making me gasp in horror.
"Gross." I say in fake disgust, looking at him in horror.
"Oh haha very funny" he replied, even though he had a smile seated on his face.

After draining and playing the squash, we go out to the table seeing Cornelius sitting at a chair swinging his legs, my heart melted at the sight. Just as we where getting seated, we heard angered howling outside.

I look at Caesar in worry, the carefree and peaceful atmosphere dissipating immediately.
"Hey, did you tell your tribe where you where staying" I ask, looking towards the front door.
"No" he replied, taking a step towards the front door.

Fantastic.
