"Why does Hawlucha care about Greninja so much? I mean, I guess Greninja's not that bad, but there's really nothing special about him," Luxray commented to Pikachu. "And I thought Greninja hated him."
Pikachu didn't reply. Instead, his mind flashed back to the short, yet tumultuous history between Greninja and Hawlucha.
He remembered Hawlucha staring at a surprisingly powerful Froakie intently, already interested in what made his world spin. He remembered an arrogant fighting-type being sharply cut down by a little blue frog and collapsing in tears back at camp later. He remembered him, with red-rimmed eyes, apologizing to his softened counterpart later. He remembered Greninja fiercely defending Hawlucha when others told him he was all flash with nothing to back it up, then Hawlucha doing the same when Greninja started getting harassed for his Battle Bond ability. Most of all though, he remembered the way something about Greninja had changed the first time he gave Hawlucha a chance to be friends, after the flying-type had sworn on his life that he wouldn't cast him away.
"You'd have to be there to understand," he replied finally.
