It had been three days since Greninja had left to protect Kalos, and still, Hawlucha couldn't keep his mind off of him. Everywhere he looked, he saw things that reminded him of the stubborn frog-ninja Pokemon.
The empty chair that sat at the dining table that no one had bothered to move. The bedroom door that had remained shut tight since his departure. Even the lake he used to love to swim in so much.
When Greninja had left the team, Hawlucha had cried until he felt exhausted. Even afterward, however, he still didn't feel any better. He couldn't understand why Greninja had chosen to leave. Couldn't the Zygarde cores have protected Kalos on their own? They were legendary Pokemon, for Arceus's sake.
Oh, who was he kidding? He knew exactly why Greninja had chosen to leave. Even if he didn't necessarily need to get involved, Greninja had never been one to just stand by when others were in danger. It was one of the reasons Hawlucha had fallen for him in the first place.
He was proud of him, of course. He just wished it didn't have to come at the expense of his own happiness. Perhaps it was selfish to think that way, but that's the way it was.
Hawlucha knew he would have to move on with his life eventually. Greninja was gone, and there was no telling when he would be back. He couldn't afford to spend weeks, months, or even years moping over him. But for now, he couldn't help praying that one day, he would wake up and find that everything was back to normal.
