How the hell did something like this happen? When did Hawlucha suddenly become the only person who ever seemed to occupy his mind? And, more importantly, why was this happening in the first place? Not even two months ago, he wouldn't even have given him a second glance, but now...
Greninja was almost certain that Hawlucha had something to do with this. After all, the Arceus-forsaken bird had been proclaiming his so-called "love" for him for the better part of a year now. He wouldn't put it past him to have made a deal with some higher power to mess with Greninja's mind and force him to fall for him as well.
Wait...what? Oh, no, no, this can't be good. Please tell me this is all just some horrible nightmare and I'm going to wake up soon.
Greninja let out a groan and slammed his head against a tree. What was it with the universe and always looking for a way to take the piss out of him? He had never wanted to fall in love with anyone, but if he had to, why couldn't it have been someone like Braixen? Or Sylveon? Anyone would be fine as long as it wasn't the very person who had been the bane of his existence ever since their first meeting.
If Hawlucha actually cared about him the way he said he did, then perhaps Greninja wouldn't be so averse to the idea of having feelings for him. As it was, however, the frog Pokemon knew that Hawlucha's claims of affection were entirely unfounded.
Sure, maybe those solitary training sessions he liked to go out on only ever seemed to happen after they had an argument, or after Greninja had rejected him yet again. And maybe sometimes, he had seen him coming back with slightly red eyes that he would blame on bad allergies to anyone who asked. And maybe he had, on occasion, heard him sniffling at night when he thought everyone else was asleep.
But none of it meant anything. Those tears didn't mean anything because Hawlucha didn't truly love him. Oh, he thought he did, but then again he also thought he was a flying-type, despite the fact that he was known as the Wrestling Pokemon and couldn't actually fly.
Oh, Hawlucha was going to have a field day when he found out that he finally liked him back. Greninja could already see the pitying look he would give him before telling him what he had already known all along: that he didn't really like him and had only been pursuing him for the thrill of the chase. Somehow, he suspected that this was karma for treating Hawlucha so harshly in the past.
He had berated, belittled, and mocked him as punishment for playing with his emotions by giving him constant false admissions of love.
And yet, somehow, Greninja was now the one who was in love with Hawlucha.
Oh well. At the very least, unlike Hawlucha, he could claim that he wasn't a liar.
