We reach Isaacs house and I get nervous; what will his parents think? Him coming home with a random girl they probably haven't even heard of before?
"Isaac..." I trail off. He hums in response, hands in his jean pockets.
"Will your parents be ok with me staying?"
"Parent." He corrected bluntly.
"Oh. Sorry." I say quietly. He shakes his head.
"Don't be. Shell love you. My mum loves everyone." A ghost of a smile lingers on his lips.
"Hopefully." I mumble, following Isaac to the door. He knocks on the door. I shoot him a confused look.
"Forgot my keys." He shrugs, a sheepish smile on his face. The door opens and out steps a woman with short, caramel curls and a wide smile.
"Isaac. You brought a girl home?!" She grins at me excitedly and throws her arms around me. "Oh sweetie. She's gorgeous!" She says, pulling back and studying my face. I laugh awkwardly, glancing at Isaac. He chuckles.
"Mum, you're scaring her." I smile awkwardly.
"It's ok."
"Mum, this is Aspen. My, Uh, friend." He says, uncertainty in his voice.
"Hello, Aspen. Not to be rude, but why are you here?" She's asks. I open my mouth, then close it, not sure what to say.
"She just needs a place to stay. Her parents are out of town." Isaac cuts in. I send him a thankful smile. He sends me a swift wink in return and an intense blush creeps into my cheeks.
"Well, you can stay as long as you like, honey. Come in, come in! Have you eaten?" She asks, ushering me inside.
"Uh, no." I say quietly, looking around the room. It was really cute, with pictures of baby Isaac all around. I smile.
"Isaac. Why haven't you fed her?" His Mum gasps, as if it was a crime. He grins at her.
"We were kinda busy." His Mum eyes him suspiciously.
"Isaac. Do we need to talk about being safe?" Isaacs eyes go wide and he starts coughing.
"N-no. Mum. I-it's not l-like that!" He sputters, his cheeks red. I laugh and move over to him. His mum raises her eyebrows.
"Are you sure? You seem quite smitten." She glances at me. Isaacs cheeks darken.
"Mum! Please, stop!" He cries, shooting her a glare. Once again, I laugh. His mum rolls her eyes.
"We'll talk later, mister." She says sternly before disappearing. I laugh and turn to Isaac.
"She's nice." He scoffs.
"I'm so sorry." He rubs his forehead.
"Don't be. She's fine. Far better than my parents ever were." I look at the floor, a wave of sadness washing over me. Isaac sighs next to me.
"Aspen, as much as I really pity your situation, let's push it aside for tonight, ok?" He asks. I lift my eyes up.
"I don't want your pity." I say bluntly, crossing my arms.
"You know what I mean."
"Ok. I just don't feel the best right now." I say, just wanting to cry or sleep.
"I know." Isaac says sadly. He lifts my chin up. "I have an idea of what could make you happy." He says softly, a glimmer in his ocean eyes.
"Oh really?" I tease, my eyes locked on his.
"Mhmm." He says, leaning towards me. Our lips are about to meet, when a squeal interrupts.
"Oh! I had suspected this!" Isaac groans and pulls away from me. "No! Stay, I want a picture!" She squeals and rushes off.
"Seriously! Does no one care that I'm trying to kiss her?! Ever heard of privacy?" Isaac calls to his Mum. I giggle and intertwine my fingers with his, leaning into his chest.
"We can continue that later." I mumble. His arms wrap around my waist and he hums against my head.
"You can count on it." He replies.———————————
