Chapter 2
Billie
Around my room sat my three best friends, all of them were deep in conversion. I looked around at them fondly, my gaze landing on each of them separately. Jade, the world renowned optimist, sat across from me, her face alight with laughter. Her jet black hair bobbing around her face as she laughed. “So… what happened!?!” she directed at Tara her eyes glowing emerald with delight. “Well… he kissed me!!!!” Tara shrieked jumping up and down, her brown locks falling straight out of its loose braid and into her eyes. “Stop it!” Grace giggled “You’re ruining my work, look your hair is all over the place!”
“Just because my hair will never be as perfect as your beautiful blonde halo!” Tara teased pouting. “Well, how’s it going with Brad?” Grace directed at Jade ignoring Tara’s jest.
“He’s just perfect!” Jade exclaimed dreamily.
“As always.” I muttered rolling my eyes as Jade chucked a pillow at my face which soon had me in fits of giggles. My friends always knew how to cheer me up! I suppose I’m just tired of being the odd one out when it comes to boys. Jade has Brad, Tara is in a budding relationship and Grace has boy’s lining up for her but she won’t admit it and then there is me. The girl who still hasn’t even had her first boyfriend yet! I try desperately to curb the conversation “Come on girls, who’s up for a manicure?” I yell leaping toward my nail file and waving it in the air. Grace quickly followed suit swiping my pink polish and yelling “Me first!” like a kid. I smiled in success, settling on my bed and prepping myself for the long night ahead. I hated lying to my friends, pretending that I didn’t mind being the “single lady” when really inside I was yearning for my prince in shining armour to come and sweep me off my feet. However I was soon yanked out of my thoughts by a rather agitated Jade who was rummaging through my nail polishes searching for the dark purple one. “It’s here!” I smiled, producing her desired colour from my drawer. “You’re so organised Billieeee!” Tara moaned.
“And that’s a bad thing?” I asked and giggled “on the basis of your room I’d say organised is a good thing.” Tara rolled her eyes
“My room’s not that bad!” Tara exclaimed. My friends and I all nodded in unison “Trust me its worse!” I said, roaring with laughter. Maybe tonight wouldn’t be as I thought it would be after all!
Once all four of us had perfectly manicured hands Jade said "Lets watch a horror movie!" her eyes gleaming with mischief. "No!" I cried shuddering. I hate horror films and my friends know it. five minutes in and i'm already cowering behind the sofa. I hate knowing that something terrible is going to happen but there is nothing I can do about it. "can we just watch spongebob, please?" I pleaded, refering to my favorite cartoon of all time. I mean who doesn't like spongebob? "Not again!" my friends moaned and I sighed.
"what about 'the notebook'?" grace bobbed up and down exitedly. Jade recoiled in horror "I'm not watching that mush!" she cried.
"I could always download Tangled." I suggested thinking of the ten pound voucher I'd gotten for my 16th birthday. My friends all nod in agreement and I pull out my computer to begin the download.
While the movie was in session I pulled out my sketch book and started to draw the delighted faces of my friends as they were lit up by the light of the screen. I outlined the messy plait that belonged to Tara and shaded the broad smile that covered most of Grace's face. I used this opportunity to loose myself in thought as I let my pencil fly across the page. I loved the feeling I got when I drew its probably the reason I do so much of my time doing it! I looked over at my desk filled with piles of sketch books (most of them full) and smiled. I was halfway done when Tara noticed the sketch book in my hand and asked what I was drawing whilst trying and succeding to grab my book. She drank in the sketch and excliamed "Wow Billie this is amazing!" suddenly all of my friends were climbing over themselves to see it. I began to blush deep crimson "Oh, its nothing." I said dissmisively feeling slightly embaressed. why? I don't know but I did.
"Can I have it?" Grace piped up quietly and I nodded before they all turned back to the movie and we all settled back into a comfortable silence.
