Chapter 14
Billie
I woke up this morning with a pounding headache which is strange because I NEVER get headaches. Luckily its Sunday so I don’t have to go to school. I crawl out of bed landing with a thump as I fall, still wrapped in my covers, onto my rough carpeted floor. I slowly pick myself up, shedding my duvet and shuddering in the cold morning air. I head toward the bathroom, hoping for a nice warm shower to wash away the grime that had accumulated on my skin overnight. I spent several hours under the steady jets of water in my shower trying to wash away the strange feelings that had appeared since my encounter with Noah yesterday. I could still hardly believe that Noah was my boyfriend, let alone that he was angle. I almost felt like I was on some reality prank show but you can’t argue with what’s put right in front of you, I mean he has freaking wings and I was kidnaped by those evil demon things and I have the scars to prove it. Just the thought of it makes me shudder! Once I was fully clothed and just about ready to face the world I walked to my dresser, deciding not to bother with make up today after all with a headache like this I’m bound to look terrible no matter how much concealer I wear. I chuck my hair into a quick fishtail braid, looking at myself in the mirror only to see its surface ripple in a way that no mirror should. Shaking it of as a by-product of my pounding headache I continue to fish around for my remote, planning on spending the remainder of the day in bed watching re-runs of vampire diaries only to look back up at the mirror to see that the surface had still not subdued and so, entranced, I wandered towards the offending object only to find that the mirror was no longer reflecting my room but a large white room with marble walls and a huge diamond chandelier. Stood in this room were four people. One of them I recognised instantly, “Noah!” I smile watching happily as he returned it despite the pounding in my head. One of the other three greets me with a crisp and formal tone. She stands to the left of Noah and has flowing auburn hair and a petite figure. She introduces herself as Destiny and presents the other two as Space and Time. These must be the council members that Noah told me about, the ones that sent him down to search for the phoenix stone. “Please step through the mirror.” the stout man known as Space requests and I return his gaze incredulously. “You want me to walk through a solid mirror?” I ask sceptically and I watch in disbelief as Noah steps forward so that he is literally a breath away from the surface of the mirror and steps through, appearing next to me in my room. Should I be surprised? He bends down close to my ear and whispers “Billie your boyfriends an angel, you were bound to encounter some impossibility’s along the line. Trust me it’s not as solid as it looks.” Just the sound of his voice reassures me and so I followed him back through the mirror. Walking through mirrors gives you the strangest sensation, like a bucket of cold water being thrown over your head, unpleasant yet slightly refreshing.
As I emerge from the other side of the mirror I look around me, taking in my surroundings. The room, if you can call it a room, was huge with towering walls of solid white marble that left me feeling small and insignificant. The chandelier in the centre of the ceiling shone with millions of diamonds and probably cost more than everything I own. The floor was covered in a soft white carpet that reminds me of cotton wool. I stood agape and was only broken from my reverie by the persistent voice of Time, a small lady with shockingly blue eyes and long ash brown hair that seemed to almost go on forever. She was explaining why I was here. “As Noah discovered yesterday, you are in fact the owner of the Phoenix Stone and this means that the creator entrusted you with his finest creation however we find that it is impossible for you to return the stone to its rightful place in the afterlife without critically injuring you and as it is not your time to go we are obliged to protect you in any way we can, meaning that you will have to continue in your place as guardian of the phoenix stone.” Wait, what are they saying? That if I take off y necklace I die! I turn to Noah for an explanation but Space beat me to it, continuing where Time left off. “However now that the devils have found you it will be harder to defend yourself and so we will not send you back unprotected which is why we have decided that if you agree to it we will return to you the memories from all of you previous lives.” Previous lives? What is he talking about? “Again we ask you to consider the consequences of this. Once we have returned you memory you will never again be able to live an innocent life like the one you have lead so far. You have two choices; either we take away all memory of this encounter and all knowledge of the Phoenix stone so that you can continue living an innocent life or we can return your memory so that you can better protect yourself. What will it be?” I stare at him dumbstruck. Does he really expect me to make a life altering decision like this without time to think it over! If I let them wipe my memories then I wouldn’t remember Noah but if I take my memories back then I would constantly live in fear of the devils. The pounding in my head intensified. What to do, what to do? Noah must have sensed my concern because with the councils consent he pulls me aside. “If you chose to get you memory back I could always ask to be sent with you. Unless… you want to forget...” he asks cautiously.
