Chapter 12
Billie
“You.” I muttered as my lids parted slowly, descending into a coughing fit. “You better hurry up and explain what the hell happened back there! Why the hell do you have WINGS? ” I demanded. Last night was a little hazy but there were defiantly winged men involved and I’m pretty sure Noah was one of them. “Shhh, not so loud!” Noah exclaimed “Yes I have wings but I’ll explain later, not here, for now you got a little drunk at a party last night and fell down the stairs.” I barely had time to nod before the nurse arrived descending on me and checking my body over from head to toe. By the time she was done Noah was nowhere to be seen. I spent the next few hours of my day bored out of my mind. My mum came to visit and fussed over me asking what I was doing last night. For some unknown reason, call it curiosity, I went on with Noah’s story like he asked but couldn’t help wonder why he wouldn’t let me tell my mum the truth. It probably had something to do with the wings. Every part of my body was waiting for the moment I could leave this boring hospital ward and finally be alone with Noah. My guardian angel, I think. Heck he has some explaining to do!
I was sat in silence in the centre of Noah’s living room. It was surprisingly stylish with walls of homely beige and stark white furniture. My feet were planted firmly before a small glass coffee table and my bottom resting slightly on the soft leather of his sofa. Noah stood before me, his back resting on the same wall that held his 56” TV. I looked up expectantly at him, my big brown eyes meeting his, waiting for him to explain yesterday night and why I just had to have my arm stitched up.
“Well…” I started, prompting him.
“I suppose this will be easier to explain if I’m in my true form.” He sighed almost resentfully before beginning to shake slightly. Before I could query what he meant my 'true form' two large beams of light seemed to spread from his upper back extending down as far as his ankles. They were the wings I had seen last night! His whole being seemed to glow with an inner light as I said.
“Are you my guardian angel or something?” I asked in wonder.
“Or something.” Was his casual reply his voice seeming to vibrate in my mind, calming and relaxing me. “I am an angel,” He told me softly, no surprise there I thought. I kinda put that together, you know from the wings and all. “I was sent here to look after you by the high council of the afterlife.”
“So you are my guardian angel then?” I interrupted.
“In some ways yes,” he said again in an extremely annoying and cryptic manner “I was sent to look after you and retrieve an important artefact. The phoenix stone.” I sat quietly as Noah talked me through the phoenix stone and what it meant. Once he had finally finished I said “So how old does that make you then?” he looked at me incredulously.
“Out of everything I just said is that all you picked out on?” he began to laugh before turning to me realising it was a serious question. “Well if you must know I was born in 1856 on the 12th of November.”
“Wait that must mean that you’re...” I trailed off quickly doing the mental math.
“158. Yes.” He said slowly, calmly.
“Well that’s good!” I said with a sigh of relief. Noah looked at me with a raised eyebrow. “When you said angel I kind of figured you had at least a couple of millennia behind you. I mean how can I date someone who is several millennia older than me?” I asked “that would just be weird!”
“So you’re still okay with us?” He questioned. In answer to his question I pushed myself up onto tippy toes and merged our lips together, mine slotting perfectly into his. My fingertips explored his body, the hard muscles of his chest and the soft leathery feel of his wings. God that’s something I never thought I’d say! MY BOYFRIENDS AN ANGEL!
