Chapter Eleven

CHERYL

"Baby Doll would you mind if I take Charlie with us today?"

"No. I don't mind at all. Do you think he would be up to it though?"

"I have been praying for him and I feel if he can see with his own eyes the people we pray for at hospitals his perspective might change. He wants nothing but death and we pray for so many people that are given a death sentence by doctors who want to live. I am hoping that this will change the way he views his problems."

"It's a really good idea. I pray that God softens his heart and that he will see what dying really looks like. I can identify with him. I know how it feels to be so broken that all you want to do is end it all. Only God can heal what's broken in him and all we can do is advise him and share our testimonies with him."

"Yes Baby doll. So once we drop him off how do you feel about dinner and a movie?"

"That sounds great. Do you know what's on the circuit?"

"No, we can decide when we get there."

"TJ how do you feel about being a father? I mean we have really discussed it." I ask and TJ puts down his coffee and picks me up and pulls me against him.

"Am I going to be a dad? Are you pregnant?"

I giggle. "I'm not sure. I am only a week late."

"Baby doll, how do you feel about being a mother?"

"Terrified but really excited."

"It would the most amazing thing if you are pregnant but if not we will start working on it." He says and he leans in and kisses me.

"Babe as much as I want to we can't. We have to pick up Charlie."

"I will call Nancy and ask her if she can fit you in today."

"Erm...Ok... I'm a little nervous." I say.

"Me too." TJ confesses.

Samson decides that has had enough of TJ holding me so he lets out a bark and a little growl. We laugh. As soon as TJ steps away Samson jumps up on me and licks my hand. He's a little jealous.

"Samson baby there is no need for you to be jealous. I love you and TJ. Besides soon we are going to have a little addition to our family and as his big brother you will need to protect him."

He barks and wags his tails as if he understands. Dogs are amazing. He is not just my pet he is my baby too.

The drive to Charlie is quiet. I am sure TJ is thinking about being a father. It scares me a little. I haven't had a real role model and I pray that my children always know that I love them.

Elizabeth still ruffles TJ's hair and she always kisses his cheek. I used to feel this pang in my heart at first and then I got to know his parents and they started showing me the same affection. It made me feel loved and so welcomed.

I know TJ will be great and Liz would be an awesome grandma and that they would help me along the way but I do fear messing it up.

Charlie is not what I expected. He is tall dark skinned with light brown eyes rimmed by long dark eyelashes. He could be a model. TJ gives me a knowing look.

"Charlie this is my wife Cheryl. Cheryl this is Charlie."

"Hi Charlie." I greet and get a nod in return.
