Chapter Fourteen

ROSE

"Rose is everything alright? You look like you have seen a ghost."

"I'm fine TJ. We met Marcia's brother and Mark got scared."

"Why did something happen?"

"No. Nothing happened. Anthony is tall and built like a line backer a lot like my ex. My ex was a horrible man."

"Mark son do you want to talk me about what just happened?" TJ asks and Mark shrugs.

"Will it be ok if I come in and talk to your children for few minutes?" TJ asks.

"Yeah sure. Thank you."

TJ comes inside with us. I get Mat and Micah to come join us.

"Hi guys. How are you all doing?"

"We are good thank you." Matthew says and Micah nods.

"When you look me do you get scared? Do you think that I would hurt you in any way?"

"No Sir." The kids say.

"Ok how about Carl?"

"No Sir." They say again.

"What about Lucas?"

"He's a little scary." Micah says.

"Why do you think he is scary?" TJ asks.

The children look at me and I tell them "It's ok. You can be honest."

"Dillon was really mean to mama and us. Lucas looks a little like him." Matthew says.

"Thank you for being honest. You are right Dillon was a mean man but not everyone is like him. I know that Dillon hurt your mama and he hurt you kids too but not every man is going to do that. In this world we get good and bad people. Sometimes we have good people with a little bad in them and vice versa. Can I ask you to trust Jesus?"

"Yes Sir."

"Jesus will never hurt you and he will help you not to be afraid. He will make you stronger in here and here." He says as he points to his heart and head.

"Kids it is ok to be sceptical on whom to trust but you have to give people a chance. You cannot decide just because a man looks like Dillon that he is bad. What if they look like TJ? We cannot determine a person's character by just looking at them."

"I have known many bad men who have done many bad things but through Jesus they changed their lives. I know it is hard for you to understand it right now but can you find it in your heart to forgive Dillon?"

"Why would we do that? He hurt mama so bad we thought that she was going to die." Mat asks stubbornly.

"Have you heard about the story about Jesus on the cross?"

"Yes Sir."

"Did you know the very people he sat with daily were the very same people that cried out for him to be crucified?"

"Why did they do that?"

"Some people are born into home where they are hurt daily. Somewhere along the line they forget the value of human life. You guys are lucky you have a really great mum who takes care of you. She does the best she can. When she corrects you she does it out of love. She doesn't want to hurt she wants the best for you. Kids not all parents are like that. Some children don't have clothes and they don't have food. They don't get to go to school and most of them don't get to know how awesome Jesus is.
