It seemed colder than I thought possible, I'd spent the last few hours in the library with a small study group, I'd reluctantly joined them when they made the argument that if we worked as a group would could share tips and help one another.
They were nice enough and I did learn a few things, it was the last day of classes before term was finished for the Christmas holidays, three weeks off to research and study, we had an exam the first day back from Christmas break, the study group agreed to meet up once a week in the library over the Christmas break.
The group had said goodbyes about an hour ago but I'd stuck around to pick out a few books, I planned to study and work over the Christmas break, I needed to pick a few extra shifts at work, I was on the to call list if people called in sick.
Lisa had informed me that her and Deshaun had broken up that night we had gone out after work, they were together again the following week. I'd seen Marshall briefly, he was helping his Mom move, he said she was moving to an apartment, he said she promised she wasn't drinking, she wanted to sort herself for the baby coming.
I packed the books into my bag and left the library, the rain pouring down, I ran the short distance to the bus stop and waited, the bus pulled up a few minutes later. My mind drifted to think about Lainey, I'd picked a few Christmas gifts for her, next time I seen Marshall I'd give them to him for her.
I got off the bus at my stop and walked to the trailer park, Mr. Lowe's chair was empty but country music could be heard blasting from his trailer.
A few of the trailers held Christmas decorations, some of them looked nice, most of them looked tired and old, I'd gone for a small tree inside the trailer with multi-colored lights, I liked Christmas, I was a sucker for the big holidays, not that I got a chance to celebrate them, my family had never really celebrated much.
I flicked the lights on in the trailer, my bags landing on the floor with a thud, I kicked off my muddy shoes, I placed my wet coat over the heater, I flicked the TV on for noise in the background. I took the books from my bag and set them on the table, I'd maybe think about reading them tomorrow, I was tired of studying for one day.
The news was on the, a warning about an oncoming storm, it was December 23rd, I wasn't working Christmas Day due to the club being closed and the restaurant not needing me, my plan for Christmas was eat and study.
I changed into warm pajama bottoms and a loose t-shirt, I threw my dirty clothes into the hamper, I was on my way to the refrigerator to look at dinner options when there was a knock on the trailer door.
"It's me" Marshall called, frowning I opened the door, Marshall didn't make a habit of dropping by my trailer.
Marshall was stood holding Lainey, she looked at me and her small arms reached out for me, I smiled and lifted her from Marshall.
"Ka" Lainey said clapping her hands, she softly put one of her small hands on my cheeky and smiled.
"Come in" I muttered to Marshall as I took Lainey to the sofa and sat down with her.
"Huge favour" Marshall said, I looked at him and he had sat down the changing bag and brought Lainey's stroller in and closed the door. "Kim's in early labour"
Oh. Marshall looked worried and tired.
"Santa's" Lainey shouted happily.
Marshall looked at Lainey and relaxed, he smiled at her and sat down in front of us "Could you maybe" he paused to rub the back of his neck.
