The Misadventures of Emerald

I JUST TALKED TO A SPIRIT!

"Good night, everyone."

So, our day was ending. Everyone was going to bed. After a nice long break from my last accidental adventure, the next thing I needed was sleep.

After yawning, I called Jet. "Jet! Here, boy!"

Jet came running at top speed from the living room to my closet. I turned off my bedroom lights, tucked myself in bed, and closed my eyes. So, you might be thinking the rest of the night was hunky dory, right? Wrong. I only got to sleep in bed for about 10 or so minutes. Then, out of the blue, I found myself in a COMPLETELY different location. It looked like I was in an underground area, trapped. It was uncomfortable, too. Mainly because the area was small, and getting into a comfortable position wasn't easy. Anyway, there was a big, noticeable door right in front of me, but unfortunately, I couldn't open it. Then I noticed that there was a combination input system of some kind that I had to input correctly to open the door. Basically, there was a safe that led to opening the door. Unfortunately, I didn't know the combination, and there wasn't a single clue anywhere.

I sat there in despair, wondering if I'll ever get out of here and see my family again. But then, I heard a voice. "Emerald?"

The voice got closer. "Are you Emerald?"

"Yeah..." I said, trying to maintain a comfortable position. "Who's asking?"

You might be thinking that it was my family I was hearing, and that I was still nearby my house somewhere. But I assure you, that voice I heard didn't sound like ANYONE I knew. It wasn't anyone in my family, and it wasn't anyone in Pearl's family. It wasn't Jet or Amethyst. This was someone entirely new.

Anyway, the voice responded with, "So the legends are true. You DO find yourself in sticky situations, don't you?"

I asked, "Who are you?" again.

The voice said, "The combination is 2-8-4-5. Got it?"

I input the combination into the door, and the door swung open. Unfortunately, it didn't lead to any place I recognized. I said, "Thanks. Can you tell me who you are now?"

"Come outside and I'll tell you everything."

I stepped out of the room I was trapped in and entered the second room, just like the voice said.

The voice then said, "Don't move."

Confused, I stood still, not moving a muscle. Suddenly, my eyes felt as if they were protected by little blankets. It felt... comfortable to say the least. I didn't understand what was going on or who was doing this to me, but after being uncomfortably trapped in that first room, this feeling is just what I needed. Soon after, I saw a figure. When the figure spoke, it had that same familiar voice. "My name is Crystal."

Judging by her figure and her voice, I knew that she was female. She continued. "I was summoned here by my father. He assigned me this task of helping you out after noticing you were helplessly trapped."

"Why me? I'm not complaining, but why me? What makes me so special?"

"Emerald. Don't you know? This is your 17th adventure! You did manage to handle most of them by yourself, but some of them you conquered with your whale friend and your girlfriend..."

I had to clarify to her, "I don't have a girlfriend."

She responded with, "Isn't Pearl your girlfriend?"

I said, "No... not anymore... we're just friends."

"I see. Come on, let's go and I'll tell you more."
