So it was almost midnight. Everyone else was sleeping away while I was enjoying my summer vacation watching a horror movie. My parents have never really let me watch a horror movie before, and... oh man. Now I know why. Anyway, the movie ended and the credits were rolling. Spooked out of my wits, I went and put the movie's VHS tape cassette where it belongs. I then started going to my room to go to sleep. But suddenly I heard a loud obnoxious sound coming from the window. Ears shattered, and curious, I went to see what's up. It turns out it came from a silhouette of what looks like a wolf with BRIGHT red eyes. How he managed to make the obnoxious noise with the window, I don't know. Anyway, I turned on the lights and the silhouette was actually one of the cutest looking puppies I've ever seen. Also, the red I saw earlier was no longer there. Strange. Anyway, the puppy started whimpering. With a sad, desperate face. It was raining outside, too. I started feeling really bad for the dog and decided to let him/her stay in for the night.
As soon as I opened the door, the puppy jumped at my arms and started licking my face. Afterwards, I put him/her down on the floor wondering what I should do with him/her. At first, I thought he/she was hungry, so I started going to kitchen and... oh wait... we don't have any dog food. Then, I thought maybe he/she was thirsty or something. I went and searched for a plastic bowl when... oh wait... we don't have any clean bowls yet. I then figured I could at LEAST provide him/her with a place to sleep. I made a little bed for him/her to sleep in and went in my room looking for a place to put it. I finally settled on the closet. I mean, let's face it. Mom, Dad, Ruby, and Sapphire probably wouldn't approve of me bringing a dog into the house. Even if he/she was adorable. Anyway, I put it in the closet and the puppy zoomed in, jumping up and down on the bed. Satisfied, I closed the closet door and went to bed myself, thinking I did a pretty good deed.
The next morning, the first thing I was planning on doing was to open the closet to check if he/she was still there. Instead, I saw that he/she WASN'T there, both the closet and my bedroom doors were already half open, and... yeah. Pretty suspicious. At first, I figured he/she must've found his/her way out before I woke up. So I got up, got dressed, and got went to the living room, expecting my family doing what they're usually doing in the morning. Instead, I found Mom and Dad, standing up straight with an angry expression, Ruby looking at me with the you're-so-busted face, and Sapphire in the basement as usual. I also saw some EXTREME damage to our furniture. Our chairs and couches having hundreds of little holes, and even a couple of massive holes spuming out the fluff from within. Lamps fallen over and broken, tables flipped, and T.V.'s with a crack on the screen. Mom and Dad were furious! "EMERALD! WHAT WERE YOU THINKING!? DID YOU JUST ASSUME THAT WE ARE RICH AND CAN AFFORD ANY DAMAGE LIKE THIS!? ALSO, DID YOU WATCH A HORROR MOVIE!?!? ANSWER US, YOUNG MAN!!!"
I didn't know what to say. Instead, I looked around trying to find an excuse. After all, I certainly didn't make that mess. Behind me was the puppy from last night, and he/she dotted away as soon as I saw him/her. I sighed, and then I asked, "If I told you that I brought a dog into the house, made a shelter for him/her and he/she is the possible suspect in all of this, would you believe me?"
"Don't be ridiculous, Emerald. Even if there was some adorable puppy whimpering outside our window in the rain, we know you wouldn't let it in."
Then Ruby commented, "What? Another story?"
Then Mom and Dad gave me the are-you-kidding-me face and asked, "That's your excuse, isn't it?"
Then I asked, "How long am I grounded?"
Dad answered, "Until this room is completely repaired. Until then, go to YOUR room and think about what you've done."
I did go to my room, and I did start thinking about whether or not the dog was the one who made the mess. Considering that he/she was the only suspect, the odds are pretty one-sided.
