Capper stared in disbelief as the flaming airship sped off into the desert. He didn't want to believe it, he couldn't believe it. His best friend, Chummer, had just betrayed him. He had left him, all because Capper wanted to live an honest life. Their last exchange of words still rang in his ears as his mind tried to process what had just happened.

((flash back))

Capper clung onto the airship's railing for dear life, a red coat caught on his right foot. He looked up at Chummer pleadingly.

"Chummer, please help me!" he begged, but Chummer didn't move.

"You shouldn't have come after me Capper." the grey tabby mewed sadly. "We could've been free! We could've lived our own lives! We don't need each other!"

"I need you!" Capper wailed, "I need a friend!"

"You were going to leave me Capper," Chummer coldly replied, turning away from his friend,"So I left you first."

Capper opened his mouth to try and tell him that wasn't true but before he could say anything he lost his grip and went tumbling towards the ground, the red coat still stuck on his foot.

((end flash back))

Capper stared at the ship from the pile of foam rubber he had landed on. Verko was yelling about all the money he had just lost but Capper could barely hear him. His body shook from terror as he realised how close he had come to death. He just sat there in shock until he finally started to register what Verko was saying.

"Do you have any idea what your little friend has just done?!" Verko screamed furiously.

"What?"

"I said your friend has ruined me! He betrayed us both!"

"No," Capper spat bitterly as he picked up the coat and pulled over his shoulders," He was never my friend."

He trudged angrily back to the windmill he and Chummer had called home. He sat down in the cardboard box he called a bed before Chummer's box caught his eye. Chummer, Capper vaguely remembered Verko saying something about how the damaged airship wouldn't make it far in the desert. Did that mean it had crashed by now? If it had, had Chummer even survived the crash? Despite his anger Capper felt a twinge of worry for his now ex-friend.

"Why should I even care?" he thought bitterly,"I trusted him and what did that get me? A life time of debt, that's what. He didn't even care if I died. He didn't care about what Verko and his goons would have done to me when he betrayed them. Why should I care about him?"

Tears of anger and betrayal began to well up in his eyes as he thought about all those times he had spent with him. Had Chummer even cared about him back then? How willingly would he have abandoned him back then? Had they ever really been friends? No they hadn't Capper decided. Friends don't abandon each other. Friends don't let their friends fall to their deaths.

Capper stood up before grabbing Chummer's box and chucking it out a nearby window. He watched in satisfaction as the cardboard crumpled when it hit the ground, spilling its contents every where. The tears were falling freely now as he turned back to his own bed. He pulled the blanket over his head and started sobbing. He buried his face in his pillow, muffling the sound.

Between his muffled cries and gulps of air Capper made himself a silent promise. He promised never to let anyone get close to him ever again. If he did that no one would ever hurt him or betray him again. Who needed friends, not this cat. No one would ever get close enough to hurt him ever again.

"I'm never trusting any one again" he vowed.

So that's almost word for word what happens at the end of the third issue of the prequel comics. The rest after that is what I envisioned Capper doing afterwards. I'll add the reader insert in the next chapter. I hope you enjoyed this, I'll see you all soon! (I hope)
