"...and if it returns to you then it loved you all along." ~ Unknown

One year and an epic adventure later...

Capper smiled widely as he picked his way through a crowd of celebrating ponies. The festival was in full swing, every body was dancing and celebrating everywhere he looked. It was a little overwhelming. Capper himself was having a great time, that is until somebody set off some fireworks.

In a flash Capper found himself back on his roof that fateful New year's day.  The day Capper's entire world had changed. The day he had told (Y/n) how he really felt about them, the day they told him that they felt the same. The day Chummer had betrayed him a second time...

Capper's hand reflexively reached into his jacket and clasped around (Y/n)'s cap at the thought of his lost love.
He had kept it there, close to his heart, since the day they had left Kludgetown. The ponies around him gasped with delight as colorful explosions decorated the night sky, the same could not be said for him.
The world around Capper seemed to grow quiet as memories, both painful and pleasant, danced before his eyes...

(Y/n) waving, trying to catch his attention the day they met...

The mischievous glint in their eyes as they leaned against the wall in his coat...

The time he had held them close after a nightmare...

The epic trash battle...

the kiss they had shared under the mistletoe...

the time they taught him how to ice-skate...

The day they cared for him while he was bedridden with illness...

The way they had put up with all his emotional drame...

How they had tried to fix the damage Chummer had caused...

The time he had found them bundled up on the floor because it was "too cold"... how they had snuggled with him before falling asleep on him shortly thereafter...

The day they had said goodbye...

"Capper? Capper darling are you alright?" Rarity asked, her voice pulling him back to reality.

"S-sorry what?"

"I said are you alright, you look like you're about to cry" the white unicorn clarified.

"I'm, I'm fine" he lied, "I just... need a little air that's all".

Rarity looked like she was going to object but Capper cut her off before she could speak.

"I just find large parties overwhelming that's all so of you'll excuse me..."

Capper quickly walked away from an unconvinced Rarity. He could feel her concerned gaze as he vanished into the crowd. He didn't stop walking until he had reached an outdoor balcony, far from the festivities behind him. He could still hear the boom of the fireworks and the concert, albeit faintly, in the background.

He sighed shakily and tried to compose himself. He hadn't had a flash back that intense since Tempest had blown up Celeano's airship. He thought he was going to die at that moment. He remembered thinking that he would never fulfill his promise to (Y/n) before plummeting to what could have been a watery grave. That was around the time the flash back had started. He came to his senses one he broke to the surface of the water.

Ever since (Y/n) had left he would occasionally come across an object or situation that would trigger this flood of memories. He figured that the trigger this time must have been the fireworks, those always brought back memories of (Y/n). Were they still waiting for him? It had been a little over a year since he had last seen them, what if they had moved on?

Capper shook his head, he didn't need to think about that right now, not when he was already on the brink of tears. He removed his new top hat from his head and ran a hand through his hair. With a heavy sigh he gazed over the sleeping land of Equestria. He was free from Verko's clutches but how was he going to find (Y/n)? It was a wide world out there and he was just one cat, (Y/n) could be anywhere.

He briefly mused about going back to Abyssinia and looking there when he noticed a flicker of movement out of the corner of his eye. He turned his head slightly to get a better look without being too obvious. A feline shaped figure had broken away from the main crowd and appeared to be moving in his direction. He found this odd because he hadn't seen any other Abyssinians at the festival, not that they wouldn't be. He was pretty sure Twilight had invited literally everyone in Equestria to the celebration.

As the figure drew closer he began to make out a pair of familiar (e/c) eyes. He quickly extinguished the glimmer of excitement rising in his chest. That could be literally anyone from Abyssinia, his mind was playing tricks on him. He turned his gaze back to the scenery ahead of him, there was no way they were here. Why would they be here?

"Uh...hey?"

Capper stiffened, he knew that voice.

"Are you lost? I noticed that you were alone out here and I was wondering if-"

Capper quickly turned towards the familiar sounding voice and found himself face to face with a very familiar looking Abyssinian. They stared at each other in stunned silence for a moment.

"Capper...is that really-"

"(Y/N)?!" Capper gleefully exclaimed.

(Y/n)'s face lit up with excitement as Capper rushed towards them and scooped them into his arms. He ended up losing his balance and they both went tumbling to the ground. Capper tipped his head back and laughed a little at the situation before pulling (Y/n) into a hug. They stayed there on the ground, laughing, crying, and everything else in between.

"I was beginning to think that I would never see you again" (Y/n) laughed after a little while.

"What? No," Capper chuckled, "I promised that I would find you again didn't I?"

"Well technically I found you."

"Details, details."

(Y/n) laughed lightly as Capper softly kissed the tip of their nose. In the grand scheme of things it didn't matter who found who. All that mattered now was that they were back in Capper's arms again.

"I do believe you left something at my house," Capper said as he plopped (Y/n)'s hat on to their head.

(Y/n) smiled and revealed the patch of red fabric they had sewn to the inside of their jacket before pulling Capper into an actual kiss. They could still make out the sounds of the festival and the fireworks. It was a wonder they had found Capper at all in this busy place. As they broke the kiss and looked into Capper's eyes they made an important decision, no matter what happened next they would be at his side.

Now that they had found each other they weren't going to let anything break them apart ever again.
