(Y/n) groaned, rolling over and pressing their hand's to their ears. They were supposed to be sleeping in today and they were not ready to be awake. For once it wasn't Capper's fault that they were up. Something had the citizens of Klugetown excited and no one wanted to be quiet about it. (Y/n) could hear excited squealing outside Capper's window accompanied by noisy chatter. (Y/n) could tell that Capper wasn't happy about the sudden noise either, they could hear him shifting about and muttering irritably.
Capper eventually got up to see what all the fuss was about. He pulled back one of the curtains, making the room slightly brighter. He let out a soft gasp of surprise when he saw what it was. (Y/n), now curious, got up and peered over Capper's shoulder. What they saw surprised and excited them. There was a large patch of ice covering the street below them.
Not only was there ice, it was snowing too. (Y/n) wondered how this was possible. They literally lived in the middle of the desert, even on the coldest of days it was too hot for snow. That was when they noticed the merchant ponies they had seen the other day, two unicorns. They were using their magic to make a climate controlled "bubble" around the street. It looked like in addition to this they had set up a booth that was renting out ice skates.(Y/n) felt a bubble of excitement form in their chest, they loved ice skating.
(Y/n) turned to Capper, pointed excitedly, and said; "We should go do that."
Before they knew it Capper and(Y/n) were bundled up and standing in line to rent some skates.(Y/n) couldn't help but notice that Capper was fidgeting a little, as if he wasn't sure he wanted to be there. (Y/n) shot him an inquisitive look, concerned something might be bothering him.
"Are you alright? You look anxious."(Y/n) remarked.
"I'm fine, just a little nervous I guess."
"About what? Is the cold bothering you?"
"No its not that, I've just never been ice skating before."
"Wait, really? What about that indoor skating rink in Panthrea? You never went there?"
"I couldn't really afford to rent any skates," Capper admitted.
"Don't worry, skating isn't too bad,"(Y/n) assured him, cracking a small smile, "I can help you if you want."
Capper looked a little relieved and accepted(Y/n)'s offer. Once they got their skates they sat down on a bench the ponies had set up and(Y/n) showed Capper how to properly lace his skates.(Y/n) stepped onto the ice and offered Capper their hand. Capper, wobbling slightly, gratefully accepted it.(Y/n) gave his hand a gentle, reassuring squeeze and carefully led him onto the ice.
Despite all the noise people were making,(Y/n) and Capper were the only ones who were actually skating.(Y/n) supposed that was because most of Klugetown's residents had never seen ice before, let alone gone ice skating. They decided that this was a good thing, this was no one could knock an inexperienced skater like Capper over. As they started gliding across the ice Capper started to become a little more confident.
His grip loosened a bit and(Y/n) decided it was safe for them to let go of his hand. Free from their grip Capper glided gracefully across the ice... for all of two seconds, then he face planted it. He lifted himself into a sitting position before shooting(Y/n) a look of betrayal.
"YOU LET GO!"
"I thought you could handle it!"(Y/n) replied, trying not to laugh.
"Clearly, you were wrong." Capper huffed, reaching for(Y/n)'s hand again.
(Y/n) giggled a little before helping him back onto his feet and starting the whole thing over again. Things were going pretty well. Capper was building up some more confidence but this time he made sure not to loosen his grip on(Y/n)'s hand.(Y/n) thought things would end up progressing like this... that is until they tripped on their own skates.(Y/n) and Capper went tumbling to the ground before breaking into laughter.
"What was that(Y/n)? I thought you were the professional here." Capper chuckled.
"Your words not mine. I never told you I was a professional."
Capper sneezed as a snowflake landed on his nose, making(Y/n) laugh a little more. They both stood up, ready to give another go. The rest of the day followed a similar pattern, some one fell down, dragged the other down with them, both would burst into laughter, and they would try again. Over time a few brave souls ventured onto the ice, making(Y/n) a little disappointed that they weren't the only ones skating anymore. But like all good things do, the day drew to an end. The unicorns ushered the remaining stragglers off the ice and(Y/n) and Capper had to leave.
They returned the skates and went on their way. Capper and(Y/n) happily discussed the day's events on the way back home. Capper was insisting that he "had this whole ice skating thing down" but(Y/n) wasn't so sure about that.
"Maybe if their still doing this tomorrow we can come back and practice some more."(Y/n) suggested.
Capper smiled widely, "I would like that," he said, "I would like that very much."
"Does that count as a date?"(Y/n) asked teasingly.
"I suppose it does," Capper laughed.

Guess who's early again! I really mean to start updating on Tuesdays but then I finish writing before then and I get excited. I have to post things when I finish them or I get anxious. So here is the chapter I was supposed to post in three days! I don't think most of you mind when I'm early though.
I wrote this chapter to include some winter fun in this story. That and because I actually really like ice skating. The song included at the start of the chapter served as inspiration as well.
Here's the link to the original https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q9-TDylOlzg
I shouldn't have to tell you that I don't own this song, nor did I sing it, but I'll say it any way.
I have counted the votes for the contest thing I posted last week. I'm happy to announce that option C, aka Capper running through Klugetown in a panic, has won by popular vote. Thank you to all of you who participated. You will be happy to know that I have already finished the illustration and it will be posted no later than December 25th, aka Christmas.
Thank you so much for all of the votes and reads! I know I say it all the time but I love you guys!❤ And finally, for those of you celebrating Hanukkah right now, Hanukkah Sameach! 🎉
