It's going to be a good day

Capper was having an unusually good day. No Verko, no random cronies, no unwelcome traitors... Everything had been going smoothly. It felt like nothing could ruin his day.

He was doing a bit of grocery shopping at the moment, (Y/n) had stayed home. Speaking of (Y/n), things had been going great between them. In the couple of weeks that they had been together things had been progressing pretty nicely. Since they had been good friends before, and (Y/n) already knew about his personal drama, the relationship had been less difficult than Capper had expected.

He didn't feel like he had to hide anything from them, he knew they wouldn't judge him for it. Capper finished buying the rest of the groceries and started to walk back home, whistling softly as he went. It was going to be a good day, he could feel it. Unfortunately... he was wrong.

Something didn't feel right. At first he shrugged it off as nothing, what could possibly go wrong today? But the feeling persisted. The closer he drew to home, the stronger the feeling grew. Maybe another storm was approaching, the air was always uneasy then. He was almost home now, the feeling was unbearable.

He shook his head, as if trying to rid himself of this feeling the same way he would raindrops. He rounded the corner, his gate was in sight now. Cautiously, he pushed it open and walked forward. Once he caught sight of his front door he froze in horror.

The door itself was barely attached to the door frame, hanging on by one hinge. He dropped the groceries and broke into a dead run. He barely had time to think as he pushed past the mutilated door. The whole place looked like it had been ransacked.

Furniture was over turned and broken. Several windows had been smashed, littering the floor with glass. There were signs of a struggle all throughout the front room. The (f/c) cap he had grown so used to seeing lay in the middle of the floor.

"(Y/n)?...." He called softly, half afraid of what he might hear.

There was no answer, just eerie silence. Capper carefully picked his way around the broken glass. He was about to call out again when he spotted something that made his blood run cold. There was a series of suspicious red stains leading further into the house. He pressed forward, glass forgotten, a new sense of urgency guiding him.

The trail led to the very back of the house. Every now and again Capper would look around, hoping to see (Y/n) picking their way through the wreckage. The trail ended at the bathroom. Capper placed his hand on the doorknob, hesitating to open it. He took a shakey breath and braced himself for what he might see. The door clicked and slowly swung open.

It was... Chummer? He was sitting in the bathtub, groggily trying to clean a large gash on his leg. A first aid kit sat close by. Hearing Capper enter he slowly lifted his head. He looked up at him with sad, pained eyes.

"I'm so sorry..." He whispered.

"What happened," Capper quietly asked as he walked to his side, "Where's (Y/n)?"

"Verko... he just... I'm so sorry... I tried to..."

"Where.is.(Y/n)?"

Chummer looked at Capper, his eyes dull with defeat, "They're gone..."

"What do you mean they're gone?" Capper asked, though he was pretty sure he knew the answer.

"Verko took them."
