(Y/n) and Capper sat across from each other at the table talking cheerfully. Unlike most people they had waited until the evening to exchange gifts on this fine holiday. The day itself had been very eventful, which might have been the reason that they were exchanging gifts so late. They had done a bit of thieving that morning. (Y/n) was proud to say that their pick pocketing skills were slowly getting better, they felt a little guilty for robbing those people on a holiday though.

For the remainder of the day (Y/n) and Capper had gone on their "ice skating date". Capper had improved a lot since their last visit. He was almost to the point where he was confident enough that he could skate by himself. The cold around the house didn't seem to be as bad as it usually was either. Maybe that meant that the unicorns were doing something to make the house unaffected by the weather spell. Today had been a good day to say the least.

It looked like that day was going to end on a high note. (Y/n) watched as Capper turned his gift over in his hands, occasionally tugging at the wrapping paper. They had never seen someone be so careful, or so slow, while opening a gift. They chuckled a little as Capper gave the paper an experimental tug.

"What?" Capper chuckled.

"You're being so careful with that gift. Its almost like you expect it to bite you."

"Well you can never be too careful, for all I know it could be something fragile or potentially dangerous."

"As if I would give you something dangerous."

"You made me drink poison."

"Black seed oil." (Y/n) corrected.

"Same difference."

(Y/n) rolled their eyes, smiling slightly. Capper had apparently decided that (Y/n) wasn't trying to injure him since he started to tear the paper off. (Y/n) watched his expression closely as the paper started to give way. They felt their smile widen as Capper's face lit up, the cards were a hit.

"You didn't..."

"I did."

"No you didn't."

"I totally did."

"How did you know?"

"I'm a good listener."(Y/n) shrugged.

Capper turned the pack of cards over in his hands. He looked absolutely thrilled. It made(Y/n) happy seeing him this happy, seeing childish excitement dancing in his eyes. After a moment he put the deck down and reached for something behind his chair.

"I'm sorry my gift isn't as personalised as your's," he started, lifting a festively wrapped package onto the table,"But I hope you'll accept it."

(Y/n) smiled, accepting the gift. The fact that Capper had spent money on something other than food or water already meant a lot. They (carefully/crazily depending on how you open gifts) tore away the paper.  They gasped in surprise, it was a coat. More specifically, it was a coat that was the exact same shade of (f/c) as their cap.  They pulled the coat over their arms, it was a perfect fit.

"Its lovely,"(Y/n) said, smiling,"Thank you Capper."

"You're welcome." Capper chuckled.

They smiled at each other for a moment, enjoying the happiness on the other's face. That was when Capper suddenly spoke up.

"Its a beautiful night, do you want to go for a walk?" Capper offered hopefully.

(Y/n) nodded happily and made their way to the door. Together,  (Y/n) and Capper stepped into the cool night air. They didn't have any idea where they would be going but they didn't much care.  To be quite honest each was enjoying the other's company more than anything else. The streets were oddly empty tonight, not from any sort of impending disaster thankfully.(Y/n) didn't want to relive that ever again.

(Y/n) assumed that this was because most people were inside spending time with their families. (Y/n) and Capper chatted pleasantly as they walked. Every once in a while they would laugh at something the other had said.  A sort of comfortable feeling seemed to linger through out the entire city, making it feel much more peaceful and safe than usual.

(Y/n) could faintly hear the sound of people singing drifting from the occasional open window. Twinkling lights decorated the streets, giving the town a warm glow. The whole atmosphere made everything feel like a dream. (Y/n) wished that time would stop, if only for a little while, so that this moment could last a little longer. But eventually, like all good things do, the walk drew to a close.

They were almost home when Capper decided to take a little shortcut.(Y/n) was sceptical at first but, secretly hoping this "shortcut" would drag the night out a little longer, agreed to it anyway. They were walking under a gazebo, exchanging playful banter, when Capper paused. He looked up, surprised by something(Y/n) couldn't see yet. They moved a little closer to him to try and see what had his attention. Once they spotted it(Y/n) felt the colour rush to their cheeks, it was a sprig of mistletoe.

(Y/n) turned to Capper quickly and noticed the equally flustered look on his face. A couple of things raced through(Y/n)'s head as they realised the situation that they were in. They didn't have to kiss right? No one else was around, it wasn't like anyone would know if they didn't.

No one would notice if they did.

The thought made (Y/n)'s stomach flutter with excitement, or was that embarrassment? They couldn't tell. They were still trying to figure out how to react when they felt Capper move closer.  They looked up at him and were startled by just how close he was. Close enough that they could feel his body heat, close enough to feel his breath stir their fur. They looked down at their feet, embarrassed.

They could hear their heart pounding in their chest, it was a wonder Capper couldn't hear it too.(Y/n) wondered if they should turn and run away while they still could. Capper gently lifted their chin with one finger. He hesitated slightly, uncertainty dancing in his eyes. (Y/n) thought he wasn't going to actually go through with it, until he gently pressed his lips against their's.

(Y/n) must have been blushing profusely at this point but they didn't pull away. The kiss lasted for all of ten seconds before Capper pulled away. They stared at each other for a moment, wondering what to do now. Capper looked like he wanted to say something but he stopped himself. For a while neither of them spoke, nor did they move, they just stared at each other.(Y/n) finally broke the silence and quietly suggested that they go home.

The rest of the walk continued in awkward silence. Neither of them acknowledged what had just happened between them. When they finally did get home they went strait to bed, exchanging a quick "good night" and a "thanks for going on a walk with me" as they did so. Half an hour later(Y/n) laid awake, thoughts buzzing through their mind.

It had just been a mistletoe kiss right? Do those even count as actual kisses? Its not like it actually meant something, right? It was probably just a joke. That's it, it was just a joke. He didn't actually mean it.(Y/n) kept trying to brush it off as nothing but deep down they knew that he had meant it.

If he was joking he would have flashed them that familiar mischievous grin of his immediately afterwards. He would have made some smug remark. He would have teased them for looking so flustered. At the very least he would have apologised for making them so embarrassed. He could have just given them a quick peck on the lips and called it good. He didn't have to move in so close or look so nervous.

If that kiss had meant nothing, it wouldn't have lasted as long as it did.

You're welcome.

Were you surprised? This was my first time writing any sort of kissing scene so I'm sorry if it was pure cringe. And for those of you who are wondering, this is considered canon in the main story. This chapter will come up again.
