The fourth of July was around the corner, yet somehow all I could think about was college in September.

The writing programs at WSU didn't sound as perfect anymore, but I had no choice. Every year for the fourth of July, my family went to the beach to camp for a few nights.

My Dad had invited Grace, but Mr. Jones had quickly got rid of that idea.

Still, when one afternoon I threw an acorn at her window and I saw the curtains drawn open I decided to ask again. I held up the notecard.

DO YOU WANT TO COME CAMPING WITH US?

She smiled at me and held up her notecard.

Hell yes!!!

I picked up the phone and called her.

She answered almost immediately.

I started talking as soon as I heard her on the other line."My parents want to take two cars this year so we have plenty of room. I know what your parents would say but-"

"But screw them." Grace laughed.

"Exactly!" I grinned. "Are you in?"

"Of course, neighbor boy. My parents sighed me up for medical school in Florida. It starts in september and honestly I need a break from all this stupid college stuff."

"Tell me about it." I smiled. "We leave in two days, so be ready. And it's camping so, bring comfortable and warm clothes." I said.

"Okay. I'll tell my parents." She said.

"Alright, bye."

"Bye."

I hung up the phone and I saw Grace step out of her room and downstairs. I did the same to tell my parents.

My dad was at the counter typing something into his computer.

"Dad!" I said.

"Yes James..." He said barely noticing me.

"Grace is in."

"She is? Her Dad..."

"I know, she said they don't matter. Dad please!" I smiled.

"I don't know James," My Dad looked at me.

"Dad, she needs this."

"Alright, She's driving with you and Katie though." My Dad sighed.

I grinned and went back upstairs. Grace hadn't come into her room yet and I imagined her sitting on her couch downstairs being yelled at.

Everything would be fine... I just had to give it time. After all, in a few Days we'd be camping on the beach...
