CHAPTER 19
JEAOUSY IS A TERRIBLE THING
“This can’t be…” the Doctor said to himself softly, frowning at the painting.
He set it down on the table where we could all get a good look at it.
“Something’s going to happen to the TARDIS?” Amy asked, concerned.
“It might not be literal. Anyway this is where he wanted you. Date and map reference on the door sign, see?” River pointing out, showing the door of the TARDIS.
The Doctor, who was sitting in a corning, thinking heavily looked up at her.
“Does is have a title?” he asked.
“The Pandorica opens.”
Before I knew it, I found myself gripping on to the Doctor tightly, scared for my life as our horse galloped rapidly behind River’s horse and Amy following not far behind.
Since I never went horseback riding, I was too terrified and when I was terrified, I could count on the Doctor to reassure me. And that’s what he did by offering to have me go with him. As he helped me up, I noticed River giving me a dirty look for a second but when she realized I saw her, she looked away and started advancing on her horse. This woman didn’t like me and I knew why. Somehow I felt like everyone was always after the Doctor – friendship or more – and I was always a fret.
But most importantly, we were on your way towards the Pandorica. From what the Doctor and River said, it was some sort of box, a cage, that held the most feared creature in the universe. Why that had something to do with the TARDIS exploding was unknown.
In the distance, I could see the famous Stonehenge of Salisbury Plain. A moment later, we got off our horses and walked around that scattered stones. The Doctor was sonicking and River was scanning as I sat down on a stone and Amelia looked curiously around. The Doctor stood up on a stone and we all turned to him.
“If the Pandorica is here, it contains the mightiest warrior in history. Now, half the galaxy would want a piece of that. Maybe even fight for it!” he exclaimed. “We need to go down there.”
River opened the way down to the Pandorica by having a stone move, revealing some stairs. It was already dark outside and I couldn’t see a thing down the stairs. And I was frightened. Maybe it was babyish of me, but I hated the dark and knowing some cage with a super dangerous warrior was down there didn’t assure me one bit.
The Doctor went down, followed by River and Amy, but I stayed in place as the light of their torches disappeared. I tried to convince myself to go down, that nothing could happen to me if the Doctor was by my side, but I was unable to move. Did they even realize my absence? Was it the museum all over again? I guess so, because a moment later, a light appeared down the stairs, getting closer and closer. A few seconds later, the Doctor came out of the hole in the ground.
“AJ, what’s wrong?” he asked, looking concerned.
“I-I don’t like the dark all that much to be honest…” I admitted, shaking a bit. “And the warrior thing… I guess I’m a coward…”
His green eyes became amazingly soft and a little smile appeared on his lips. He approached me and pulled me into a tight and friendly hug. I wrapped my arms around him as well and held him back tightly, not waiting to let go.
Someone cleared their throat behind the Doctor and we pulled away to see River standing behind us.
“This is all lovely, but Doctor, we have work to do. If the girl is scared of the dark, give her your torch and let’s go,” she said sharply.
The Doctor nodded and gave me his torch. River and him left once again down the stairs and I sighed deeply, but a few seconds later, the Doctor reappeared once again.
“Don’t you leave, AJ. You stay right here and we will be back in no time. Understood?” he commanded for my own good.
“Yes, Doctor,” I replied.
And then he kissed me quickly on the forehead and headed back down to join River and Amy in the underhenge.
I smiled to myself thinking of his kiss… and wishing it was on my lips. But that could never happen. Could it?
I was lost in my thought when out a nowhere, I heard something resembling airplanes in the sky. Knowing we were in a time way before flying existed for humans, I looked up in the sky to find hundreds of… spaceships! Alien spaceships hovering over the Earth. I looked up, shocked. These wasn’t a ship I recognized from my trips with the Doctor. I had to go down and get him…
The ground shook violently and I nearly feel to the ground. I stood in front of the stairs and took in a deep breath, I was a quiet person, but I was about to be loud.
“DOCTOR!!!” I yelled as loud as I could to make sure he well heard me. “DOCTOOOR!!!”
