-Chapter Twenty-Nine-Resolve
_______________________________________________
~*~(Author's Note: I apologize for the filler, but this chapter, plus the next upcoming chapters should cover what happened in the war and why Emiko has Itachi's eye. )
It was early morning and Emiko had been sat outside for quite a while now. With a light breath out, she pulled her blanket closer to her. The sky was gold and the birds around her were chirping loudly. She didn't have a reason to be up so early, other than the fact that she enjoyed the scenery. She loved the way she felt so at peace with where she was.
"Emiko?" a tired voice called out from afar. She looked over her shoulder to meet eyes with Gaara. "Hey" she called out softly. "Are you alright?" he asked, walking towards her.
"Yeah" she trailed, her eyes lowered to her lap. "The sunrise is beautiful, isn't it?" she turned towards him, as he took a seat beside her. Gaara's seafoam eyes raised to the sky above, "Yes" he replied, "it is"
Silence overtook the two, as they sat together in peace. At that time, everything felt right. "Things have been so peaceful after the war." she murmured. The sun was rolling in now, illuminating their faces. Birds of different colors landed on the fence ahead, earning a smile from Emiko.
Gaara watched as she smiled, it still astounded him how beautiful she had become since he'd first met her. There was not another person who could make him feel the way she did.
"Gaara?" her voice rang, pulling him from his thoughts. There had been a prevalent blush dusted across her cheeks. His heart beat extra hard at the sight. "You've been staring at me for some time now" she laughed, "Is everything ok?"
"You're beautiful" he breathed, gliding his fingertips across her cheek. He drew closer, filling her lips with his. As soon as the kiss was finished, his eyes were back on her, watching as a smile grew on her lips.
"I love you," he told her. Her eyes widened for a bit, and she looked away to hide her growing blush. "I love you too" she replied, peeking back up to him. Laughter escaped his lips, shocking Emiko.
"Hey" she pouted, "Whats so funny?"
"I haven't seen you this shy since we first met" he measured her up. "Back at the Kage Summit.." he began, "Sasuke said the people who looked down upon you had caused you to lose confidence in yourself. It seems as though you've gained it all back...""But what make's you so shy when I tell you I love you?" he wondered, with furrowed brows. "Gaara.." A light laughter surfaced from Emiko's lips, as she looked away from him. "That's not the reason"
"Then why?" his eyes scanned her. "I...Well, the reason may be a little foolish" she scratched the back of her neck nervously. "My eyes..." she trailed, "Don't they look a bit funny now?"
"Not at all. They accent your beauty.""Well..." she looked away, blushing. "I'm not too sure about that"
"I am" he sent her a sliver of a smile. Emiko's eyes lingered on his smile for a while, before she threw her hands around his neck pulling him close. Gaara's smile disappeared as he wasn't quite prepared for the hug. Nevertheless, he savored the feeling of closeness. She had wrapped her blanket around him, engulfing him with warmth. They stayed like that for a moment before the two of them had decided to go back inside. When the two of them entered from outside, Temari was there standing before them with a smirk on her mouth. Gaara went ahead to the kitchen while shaking his head and Emiko let out a laugh.
"Something funny, Temari?" she grinned. "Oh nothing" she walked at Emiko's side. "I made some coffee, it's hot in the pot if you'd like some" Emiko looked ahead, watching as Gaara poured himself a cup. "Sure"
