There are a ton of age gaps in relationships, most of them being a few years apart. In Hollywood, we see a bunch of celebrities where the age gap can range from 10-20 years apart. Kind of weird, but most of them are older, usually in their 40's-50's. On Wattpad, no one's writing about middle-aged couples. But you know what they're actually writing? 17 y/os dating 27 y/os. Totally fine, right? Um, I don't think so.
First of all, there will be a one or two year age gap. Most of the time, these are totally fine, unless one of them is 18 and the other is still a minor, then there should be a little work to do. But if your character is 16 and her love interest is 28, I think you need to go over the laws first. It disgusts me when people write these types of stories, and most of them are student/teacher books.
A 16 y/o is not going to have the same mindset as a 26 y/o. The 16 y/o is going to be young and rebellious. Someone who is 10 years older than them is going to be more mature and wiser, especially if they graduated nearly a decade before the teenager. These relationships aren't going to work out. Move onto something more original.
