Yesterday is part of today and builder of tomorrow. We, as today's generation, are the foundation of tomorrow's nation. We hear it oftentimes that the future of this nation is on our hand. The future of this nation depends on the path we are taking today. But do we really understand how heavy this responsibility and challenge the nation will put on our shoulders on the near future? Let me ask you this and please reflect on this seriously. As millennials and young youths of today, how can we change this world?
We are playing a big role as 21st Century Nation Builders. First, leaders. We are the next leaders of this nation and as leaders, we must be good communicators so we can connect to our followers and hear every single voices of them. As leaders, we must stimulate and inspire our followers to achieve extraordinary outcomes and in the process, develop our followers' own leadership capacity. Being a leader comes the ability to be a good role model. As role models, we must be aware of our behaviors because people may hear our words, but they feel our attitude. We must possess good communication skills too because we are the one who will challenge the next generation to be more innovative and creative. The next role we have in this nation is to be a speaker and a listener. We must let our little voices be heard because our opinion, suggestions, and reactions might be the way to waken up the sleeping mind of our fellow Filipinos. However, we must be good listeners, too. Just like Jane Goodall said, "Change happens by listening." Listening is different from hearing because listening means learning, showing empathy, and seeing with the eyes of another. Yet, all in all, the most important roles we have in this nation are to be the economy's contributor and helpers of God. We can be the next successful businessmen/businesswomen, investors, professionals, entrepreneurs, and of course, leaders. We are the next ones to work hard and contribute for the economy's growth. Last but definitely not the least, we are the helpers of God who serve as a candle at the country's darkest time. As helpers of God, we must always be willing to lend a helping hand to others because we might be the only person who cares enough to help.
As you can remember, I had mentioned earlier the importance of having good communication skills to fulfill our role as the 21st Century Nation Builders. But how can we be good communicators? We are all aware that today's generation is technologically inclined which can help us improve our digital literacy. We must also develop our critical thinking skills and be more collaborative to improve our interpersonal communication skills. Through this, we can be ready and successful in this interconnected and complex world. It is important for us to practice to be good communicators so we can be more productive and ready to perform social and cross-cultural interaction. We need to be good communicators because it will serve as our weapon so we can perform our roles in this nation very well and connect to this modern world.
We are all considered here as 21st Century Nation Builders but it is always our choice on how we will act as one. Like what Mahatma Gandhi said in a quote, "We must be the change we wish to see." Everything must start from ourselves because a person with vision and passion can achieve great things, and through good communication, we can share it to the world. As 21st Century Nation Builders, let's make a good future for our nation hand in hand. We, as millennials, who aspire to change this world must start it with ourselves.
