The party was a blur of loud music, bright lights, drugs, alcohol and fucking. I didn't take part in the latter but I saw I Molly fucking at least five different guys at various times of the night. When I left Newcastle she was like that, I guess once a slut, always a slut. But she's a nice slut so it's okay.

I wake up on surrounded by smoke and the stench of alcohol, I look down and silently thank god that I'm not naked. I get up and step over unconscious people until I find a full packet of fags and a lighter, I light one up and put the rest in my pocket.

"What did you do to your hand?" A voice startles me which causes me to swing around and punch, "nothing by the looks of it, holy shit!"

"You scared me," I shrug, "and I broke all my knuckles, it's either fixed or it's the many drugs I took last night."

"I'm guessing both," he smirks, "you have a mean swing, you should come to my boxing sometime."

"Maybe I will," I reply, taking another drag.

"I'm Matty," he says, lighting his own fag, "and I think we'll get on nicely."

"I'm Rose but I fucking hate that name."

"Get a nickname," he suggests, "how about Thorn?"

"Are you being serious?" I laugh.

"Yeah, roses have thorns and it's like you," he nods, "sharp and it really fucking hurts when you get attacked by one."

"Your fault, you scared me," I smirk, "but okay, Thorn, yeah I like it."

"Who's Thorn?" A girl asks, obviously just woken up, "oh hey Rose."

"Hey Aimee," I nod, "and that's me."

"She hates her name she I gave her a nickname instead," Matt explains, "Thorn."

"YO BITCHES!" Aimee shouts, "ROSE IS CALLED THORN NOW!"

"Fine, just shut the fuck up and let me sleep," someone grumbles which is followed by mumbles of agreement.

"Bit rude," Aimee pouts, "come on let's go out."

"Kay," I nod, "this is Matty by the way."

We make our way to town quietly on the bus. Aimee is on her phone the whole time which leaves me and Matty to talk.

"So how come I haven't seen you around here before?" He asks.

"I live on Polar Court, that shitty estate on the edge of Newcastle," I tell him, "I moved away about five months ago to London but now I'm back for good."

"I live not too far from Polar," he grins, "I've never been there but now I have a reason to."

"You probably don't want to meet my parents," I laugh, "they're not the nicest."

That's one way to put it.

"So why did you move to London then back again?" He smiles.

"My parents kicked me out for doing drugs and drinking," I shrug, "I guess I was officially off the rails."

"Oooh so you're a badass," he smirks, "I love you more than I did earlier.

"How are my parents Aimee?" I lean round Matty to look at her.

"Um well," she stutters, "they're...well...I wouldn't really know, I mean..."

"Where are they?" I demand.

"They moved out about a week after you left," she rushes out, "I'm sorry, I didn't want that to be the first thing I told you!"

"Where to?" I ask, holding back a smile.

"Well we all wondered where they got the money, some thought they stole it, the twins thought they were magic but really I guess..." she rambles on.

"Where. To?" I cut her off.

"I'm so sorry Rose," she looks away, "they moved to Australia."

"Shit Thorn," Matty whispers, "I'm sorry."

"Are you fucking kidding me?" I ask.

"I wanted to tell you, I really did," Aimee says, "I just didn't want to be the bearer of bad news."

"This is so fucking awesome!" I grin, "fuck yeah!"

"Thorn?" Aimee questions, reverting back to using my new nickname now all the sentimental crap is over.

"I don't want your sympathy guys, I'm over it," I begin, "but they abused me for nine years so I'm so fucking happy they've gone."

"Seriously?" Aimee gawped, "you shit! You told us you got into fights."

"Well I wasn't going to tell you the truth was ?" I laugh, "and some were from fights."

"And you still turned out shining!" Matty grins, "let's get off here."

We end up in the centre of Newcastle, just roaming the shops. None of us have enough money to buy anything, we have £1.24 between us - that won't even buy us a bag of Doritos.

"I'm so fucking hungry!" Aimee groans for the hundredth time that morning.

"Let's just steal something," I decide after my stomach grumbles again.

"Where?" Matty asks. I look around until I see the perfect shop.

"Greggs," I tell them, "so easy and if we do get caught we can easily outrun them."

"You go first then," Matty says, pushing me towards it and Aimee nods in agreement.

"Pussys," I mutter before walking confidently into the food shop.

I browse the sandwiches quietly, earning no attention from the one man behind the counter that was serving somebody, or from the security guard sat beside the counter. I pick up a chicken salad sandwich and a vanilla coke, pretending to inspect them. I shove the sandwich in my pocket and although it sticks out a bit I stay confident and assured.

"Excuse me," a man says and I mentally curse. I turn to the security guard.

"Hi," I grin, fiddling with the coke bottle.

"Can I just say that I love your hair," he replies, "my daughter wants green hair. What did you ask for in the hairdressers?"

"I can't remember, sorry," I truthfully say, "I was in London at the time and I just picked out the colour."

"Oh okay," he nods, "don't worry, have a nice day!"

"Thanks, you too," I smile, walking out the shop.

"Erm young lady," he calls out and I turn back, "are you going to pay for that coke?"

"Oh I forgot I was holding this," I laugh, I turn slightly and put the coke back, not showing him my pocket where the sandwich is.

"No worries," he smiles, walking back over to the counter.

I walk out of the shop smiling. I go over to where Matty and Aimee are sat on a bench and pull out the sandwich.

"Your turn bitches!" I laugh, sitting down on the bench and opening the sandwich. I take a bite and smile, it's better than any of the shit that Marcus made.
