The day of the quadruplets birthdays had arrived. I was woken up early by talking outside my room. I had no idea what had been planned for their birthday, nobody did except Gloria and George. The sisters were probably up already and Matty probably was as well because he needs to take his meds. Neve and Theo were on their way over, as well as Robin's, Elsa's and Natasha's friends. After I spoke to her, Effy also invited her friends so it was going to be a full house today.

I get up and shower quickly before I make my way down the stairs happily. Music is playing in the background as people rush around everywhere. By the look of it, George and Gloria ordered some caterers and the big table is covered in plates of different foods, the red tablecloth can't be seen at all. The foods include sausage rolls, crisps, melon and chocolate fingers as well as a specially made three tier cake. Each quarter of the cake is different and personalised to fit to each quadruplets personality. A quarter of the cake has Disney characters on it, Elsa, another has One Direction on it, Robin, and another has Harry Potter on it, Natasha. The last quarter has a variety of things on it: Fall Out Boy, Scott Pilgrim vs the World characters, marvel, Nick Grimshaw, Robert Downey Jr and Nightmare on Elm Street characters. I didn't know Effy liked all these things and by the look on her face when she saw the cake, I don't think she knew her parents knew.

"You know what I like?" She asks.

"Of course Ef," Gloria smiles, "we love you."

"Thank you so much," Effy replies, a tear falling. She gives her parents a hug and soon her sisters join the hug. I leave the room to give them some privacy and to find someone else.

My phone beeps as I sit down on the landing at the top of the first floor stairs. It's Neve.

'Is it the mansion?'

'Yes'

'Fucking hell'

'I know, just come in, don't knock.'

'K'

I don't understand why she always feels the need to reply at the end of the conversation, she's done it on every single texting conversation we've had. It's wasting her money.

I go to meet Neve and on the way I find Matty and Theo.

"When did you get here?" I ask Theo.

"About an hour ago," he grins, "you look cute when you sleep."

"Oh fuck off," I scoff, shoving him, "you two coming for a smoke?"

One thing I'd learnt about Theo and Neve is that they smoke which means the four of us get on quite well.

We meet Neve by the door and we leave the house, to smoke in the garden. Matty's parents know we smoke and quite surprisingly, they're okay with it. Well tolerant as long as we don't do it in the house.

"Oh, Matty," I say after taking a long drag, "Effy saw the cake and started crying. She was hugging your mum and dad and your sisters when I left."

"Awesome," he smiles, he tries to hide his smile but he can't. It's pretty nice how much he cares for his sisters. We sit around for another half an hour, smoking a few and getting to know each other better. Theo revealed that he used to have a crush on Neve in year nine, much to Neve's embarrassment. They were also very surprised that the subjects I do are media, music and art. They all thought I'd be into sport but I fucking hate it. Exercise? No thanks.

"Who are they?" Neve asks, nodding her head towards a bunch of misfits who are stumbling through the open gates.

"Gate crashers," Matty sighs, standing up, "I'll sort it out."

"No, sit down," I groan, pulling on his shirt.

"Why?" He frowns, "it's my house."

"Because Mohammed Ali, first of all you have a broken arm," I point out as he sits back down, "and they're Effy's friends. Look."

We all watch as Effy walks up to them, greeting them all with words we can't hear before they all walk into the gigantic house. I only saw her for a matter of seconds but I think she looks happier. I can only hope she sorted everything out with her sisters and parents.

An hour later, the party was in full swing. It's not my usual party setting like the one I met Matty at, it's more mellow with a lot of laughing sober people. Although Effy and her sisters integrated more, their friends stayed apart. Effy's friends had located themselves in the lounge area, while Robin's, Natasha's and Elsa's were in the garden. Some of the food had been eaten but the cake had been left untouched for the obvious reasons.

It was 12:00 and very hot outside. Neve had somehow how persuaded me into wearing shorts and a strap top. Thankfully, my scars were literally invisible and so I was able to wear them. I was laid in between Neve and Matty, staring up at the sky. The sun was bright in the sky and so I was squinting slightly but I felt blissful. I had friends, a family, and somewhere I belong. It's all I've ever dreamed of and I've finally achieved it, but the funny thing, none of them know they helped me achieve it.

I sit up and look across at the slightly crowded garden to see four people creeping towards us, buckets in hand.

"Run!" I scream, and take off across the grass. Matty and Neve luckily have good reflexes and scarpered but Theo wasn't as lucky. All four of the bucket holders dumped the contents of their buckets on him. He shot up, completely soaked and laughing hysterically.

It turned into a full blown water fight, children, adults, even Effy's friends, running around with some water, soaking anyone they could find. It was each man for them self. Matty had to sit out because of his arm, much to his annoyance. I had a clear shot at Gloria at one point and I had a full bucket but I didn't want to soak her because of everything she's done for me. That didn't stop her and George though, they both dumped two buckets of water on me causing me to drop my own.

This carried on for a while before everyone flopped down in the sun to dry off. As it was so hot, we dried off mostly, just leaving us a little damp but it was tolerable. Not a single person at the party was dry, well except Matty but he looked a little miffed that he couldn't take part. I grabbed a wet sponge from the grass and walked up to him, I wet his face and good arm.

"There," I declare, "now you're not left out."

I don't know why but for some reason Matty, Theo, Neve and I ended up with black stripes painted on our cheeks somewhere along the line. Many photos were taken by lots of different people and I didn't need to worry about having a nice smile, it came naturally. Neve took some photos on her phone of the four of us to put on Facebook. My personal favourite one is when I'm on Theo's shoulders while he's carrying Neve and Matty is jumping in the background. We all look genuinely happy and I don't know about them, but I am.
