I wake up early, an alarm blaring next to my ear. I open my eyes to see three figures run out of my dark room, the alarm quietening as they run. I get up and do the normal routine, showering, getting dressed and going downstairs. At this school, the sixth formers wear their own clothes and not uniform so I put on some black jeans, a marvel shirt, some black vans and a jacket.
When I get downstairs, everyone is already down there except Matty who will obviously take longer due to his broken arm.
"Thanks for waking me up," I mutter to the quadruplets, "very touching."
"It wasn't me," Effy says, not looking up from her phone. Matty then walks downstairs, only one arm through his jacket.
"That bag is yours Thorn," he gestures to the black rucksack on the table, "s'got all the stuff you'll need in it. Fuck, I need my meds."
"So you guys like school?" I ask.
"Yeah, I love it," Natasha jumps in, "especially the people there, no one is horrible."
"That's because everyone likes you" Matty says, walking back in, "your friends are bitches."
"Let's just go, for gods sake," Effy sighs, walking out.
We all look at each awkwardly before Gloria and George come into the room and we make our way outside to the car. It takes less than five minutes to get to the school, George stops outside the gates and we all pile out, bags in hand. Natasha, Robin and Elsa make their way to a large group of girls and boys who greet them all with hugs. Effy stalks away in the other direction, hitching her skirt up, towards a small group of people who are sat alone in the corner. If nothing else does, that right there explains a lot about the relationship between Effy and her sisters.
Matty leads me to the reception desk so I can be enrolled into the school properly. Gloria and George sorted everything out so I'm in all of Matty's classes which will be helpful. This school isn't that big so I should be able to remember my way around quickly. On our way to registration Matty explains to me all about the people at the school.
"You've got the quiet ones, the loud ones who make jokes in class a lot - my friend Theo is a joker, he's hilarious - there's the chilled out ones, there's a few bitchy one's who are only nice to their friends, avoid them. There's also this girl called Neve, most guys have crushes on her, and some girls, but she's said she only likes one person. We've assumed she has an out-of-school boyfriend. " he explains, I nod, storing this information.
"They all sound pretty nice, except the bitchy few" I reply as we enter our reg room and take a seat at the back.
"Well," he pauses, "there's two other girls, Luna and Jax, they're fucking weird and are borderline gay with each other but they deny it. They are so sarcastic and have a sense of humour only they understand, it's hard to get along with them. Everyone avoids them, even the teachers. Also, everyone thinks they're hippies but no one has ever asked them to find out, and they smoke weed a lot."
"Pretty weird people," I laugh, struggling to imagine what these people are like, "I can't imagine them at all."
"They're are in our reg, that's them over there," he says, pointing at two girls sat at the front, the long haired one is lying halfway off her chair, the other short haired one is throwing pens at her and they're both in hysterics, but there's a glazed look in both of their eyes. They're high.
"Are they always like this?" I ask, not looking away from them, "they're high as fuck."
"Yep," he nods, "they became friends in year eight, never fallen out since. But they're not like normal friends, they deny they're friends, bitch about each other all the time then tell each other about it, never meet outside of school."
