Chapter 2: Hunger Games

The only reason I woke up was because Alice opened all my shades, turned the light on, and shook me until I finally opened my eyes.




Sometimes I feel like life is so ordinary - the human part of me. The vampire part of me tells me that I'm a monster. I don't deserve to live. I don't have real parents or a real family. Life is so much like The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. I feel the urge to kill so that I can survive and feel full, but I don't because I don't want to be a monster.




Suddenly, I hear Edward's footsteps. I quickly begin singing a lullaby that my Bella and Edward used to sing to me.




He opens the door and smiles. He doesn't know what I really think. It's the only thing I can keep to myself.




"You better get ready. School will start without you," he says as he exits my room. I walk over to my large walk in closet - Alice's touch - and put on a white t-shirt, jeans, a red leather jacket, and tannish brown combat boots.




I walk down stairs to find Esme cooking bacon in a pan over the stove.




Esme and I aren't very close, but we are close. We don't talk. We show each other our emotions. We smile or frown or laugh or hug. This morning she smiles, hands me my plate, hugs me on the side, and says, "Good luck."




I smile back even though I feel very nervous. It's a new town. I don't know anyone, but it's not like I will make many friends.




I scarf down my food and say good bye to the family. I walk outside into my yellow old bug. Edward says I have taste like Bella. Bella used to have a old red truck.




I slowly drive to school. Once I arrive, I walk into the front office. There is a long line with lots of people in it. Since it's the first day of school, everyone is receiving their schedules. A boy behind me asks me, "Are you new this year?"




"Uh..yeah."




"It's kinda obvious. Redwood doesn't get many visitors or newbies in general. Where did you come from?"




"Oklahoma."




"Are you a farmer?"




"No," I said sort snappy.




"I don't think I caught your name Mrs. Snappy."




"Sorry I snapped. Sky."




"Nice name. Does it stand for something?"




"Yeah, Skylar."




"Cool name. I'm Henry. Oh, you're next."




I turn around to find myself one person away from receiving my schedule. I walk over to the old lady who looks like she dyes her hair blue, and it inevitably fades.
