“We have a new addition to our English class today; she will be here for the week. She has already graduated and felt that she should try a senior year. Can you come up and introduce yourself, please?”
The teacher smiled and Violet looked over at Caleb who was sitting next to her with his girlfriend Lily next to him. They both gave her go-it-‘um smiles and Violet stood up in her spot. She could hear a rather idiotic looking jock whisper to his friend,” She’s sexy. I like her hair and tattoo. It makes her look badass.”
He friend whispered back,” I heard she’s Caleb Rhodes cousin and she’s visiting until Sunday. I like her tight dress and leather jacket it shows who girly she really is.”
Violet made an effort to send a threatening look at Caleb who was stifling laughter,” Hey my name is Violet and I’m 17, I’m from Rhode Island.” She sat back down but she could still hear the jocks whispering about her but this timeher but this time more people added in; she could now hear the preppy girls and the skater boy’s in the corner.
There was a note passed to Violet’s desk as the teacher was talking about some book they’d recently been reading. She opened up the note and in sloppy handwriting it read…
To: Violet
Single
Taken
Violet could tell that everyone in the class wanted to know because when she was reading it there was an abundance of people in the classroom stealing looks at her whenever they could. Violet took it upon herself to right in a new square…
Mind Your Own Damn Business
Violet smiled a bittersweet smile and put a checkmark in the box she made then passed the note to the person who had put it on her desk. That person read it then passed it on to the next person with a few snickers. Pretty soon the teacher had to turn around from teaching and march up to the jock who called her sexy and took the note out of his hands.
“Well Brandon, what do we have here?” The teacher opened the note and read it aloud, then added,” Well put Violet. Now everyone who had any part in this note should probably stop passing notes in my class. Because we’ve learned before what happens. Now pay attention.”
The rest of that class was uneventful and every few seconds Vie would find Caleb laughing at her because she was doodling all over the notebook paper she had borrowed from him. There were music notes, dinosaurs, stick figures having conversations, and a very accurate drawling of a violin and bow.
When the class got out Violet immediately asked Caleb,” How long is your school? We’ve been here for five hours.”
Both Caleb and Lily laughed at her and Caleb said,” It’s just lunch. We have three more hours.”
“Why? I’ve graduated I don’t need to relearn all this stuff. Do I have to find my diploma for you?” Violet said as she headed off to the cafeteria with her cousin and her cousin’s girlfriend. At the door Lily smiled and said something about going to her next class.
Caleb and Violet went to go find a spot and when they sat down a group of boys swarmed her but the jocks pushed everyone else away and sat down.” Hi I’m Brandon quarterback of the football team and captain of the wrestling team. Me and Caleb are good friends.”
The jock from her classroom patted Caleb on the back and Caleb about choked from laughing so hard. It wasn’t necessarily from what Brandon had said but what he knew Violet would say back. And sure enough,” I’m sorry but I’m actually not a fan of silly mindless boys who like to touch each other and pass it off as a straight sport.” Violet put her bottom lip out and looked down at her food. The jocks were stunned by her words and Violet merely said,” I would shut my mouth if you I hear flies are attracted to deadbeats.”
