“Hey Jasmine nice to see you again.” Liam said as he pulled the 16 year old in for a hug.
She hugged him back immediately, then turned to Vie,” So you’re the reason they all wanted first row seats? Hello I’m Birdy but call me Jas.”
“Hey I’m Violet.” Violet reached out her hand to shake Birdy’s.
“OH I know about you. You’ve been in the news recently in case you didn’t know. First the whole segment on you then the car wreck.” Birdy smiled sweetly, Violet could imagine that she really was this modest and kind in real life. Violet merely nodded at the news comment and Birdy added,” I also hear you got out today, from the hospital. Of course they would drag you to a concert.”
“You know it was amazing I loved every minute of it; you’re amazing.” Violet was in a form of shock from seeing Birdy one of her favorite artist’s.
Liam smiled and grabbed the boy’s arms,” Well we are in desperate need of the Lou. See you in a few minutes Vie.”
“Wait what?” Vie didn’t expect them to leave her.
Louis made the same face,” What we don’t need me right now? We have me.”
Harry smiled and grabbed Louis,” Come on boo bear.” Louis didn’t protest he just walked away elbow in elbow with Harry.
Violet turned to Birdy, or Jas, who was in the midst of putting her hair up in a ponytail,” They set this up didn’t they?”
Birdy grinned,” Yep.”
“What do they want you to get me to do?” Violet asked a little weary.
“Sing and play. I hear that everyone wants you to do that.”
“Yeah it seems like it.”
“You know I watched the segment on you and then looked you up on YouTube. You were amazing and a gut feeling tells me you still are.” Birdy sat down.
“Well I just don’t sing anymore, or play.” Violet flat out said as she sat down next to Birdy on the couch.
“Well why?”
“It doesn’t matter.”
“One of your parent’s played didn’t they? You won’t play because you feel like it belongs to them.” Birdy asked.
Violet was amazed at how intuitive this 16 year old was,” Yeah my mom did she was amazing.”
“Well then why don’t you play in remembrance of her?”
“Because it was ours and to do it alone is unthinkable.”
“You didn’t even play at their funeral?”
“I was in a coma at their funeral, although I felt like I was there.”
“We are gathered here today to remember the life of Olivia, Mark, and Christopher Rakhmelevich. Olivia was a beautiful young girl who taught at the local elementary school as their music teacher. If you remembered only a few things about Olivia you would remember the warmth or her smile, how vibrant she was, and who musically inclined she was. It is a sad loss to lose someone so young and vibrant.” The pastor was dressed in black, just like everyone else at the funeral. Violet could believe it all her mother every talked about was how at her funeral people would wear neon or white clothing and dance and have fun; she hated how melancholy some funeral’s were.
“I’m sorry.” Birdy put her hand on Violet’s back,” She taught you how to play didn’t she?”
“Yes, she showed me music.”
“Mark! Mark! Look our daughters going to be an amazing musician. She is walking toward the piano.” Olivia squealed out from the living room as she watched her three and a half year old daughter make her way to the piano.
Mark came out from the kitchen and smiled at Olivia,” Just because she is walking toward the piano doesn’t mean that she is a musician. It’s like saying if I walk toward food I’m a glutton.”
“Honey have you seen yourself eat. Sometimes you really are a glutton.” Olivia was quieter and calmer when she broke the news to her husband.
Mark’s eyes went wide,” Olivia!”
“Oh, oh! Watch she is sitting down.” Olivia came over by her daughter and sat on the piano seat. Olivia played an arpeggio and Violet’s small hand’s followed her on the piano playing the arpeggio with very little problem. Olivia turned to her husband,” Ha! I was right she got the music of the family!”
“Well with a mother as talented as you I’m not surprised.”
Olivia’s cheeks turned bright red and she turned to her daughter,” My Shrinking Violet can you follow the notes I play?” Olive played a third and Violet followed.
”If your mother was anything like my mother is… then she’d be turning in her grave knowing that she is the one who is stopping you from following your dream.” Violet was quiet,” Really. And if you were to play I bet you would feel closer with you mother and your family. They live on in your heart and they would come out through your playing.”
It was at that moment that Niall walked in the room the other boy’s following him timidly not sure what was going on between the girls. Niall announced to Violet,” Your uncle told us that we had to bring you back by 11pm or he is going to scalp us. So come on.”
Violet turned to Birdy,” It was nice to meet you. Thank you.”
“No, thank you.”
