Frost Bite

The scars along Natasha's arms shone white as the snow around her in the forest. It was her that her love, her Maria, had been taken from her by the shot of a sniper. She gave out a mournful cry as tears ran down her face and the shot that caused everything in her life to come crashing down. Memories of the months after came flooding back too, the cuts along the arms and wrists, the longing to join her beloved. The craving for death she felt still.
Two years after Maria's death Natasha got her revenge, revenge on the military officers who didn't approve of her love, revenge on the homophobic politicians who had given the orders and hired the assassin who had ruined her life. They were all dead, but why was there this emptiness inside that would never fade like the scars on her arms, forever there. Perhaps it was depression, perhaps it was grief, perhaps it was god punishing her for her sins. All she knew was that she wasn't the same Natasha that ran into the clearing so long ago.
She picked up the ruby she had stolen from the caravan that evening with little joy and went to her hiding place with the pain and grief she held within still there, it would always be there.

(Authors note) This chapter is a little different, I wanted to show more of Natasha's internal struggles and her backstory more. Sorry I know you probably want more action. Please share your thoughts and feelings on this kind of chapter in the comments if you want to see more like this.
