insomnia has been a part of my life for a long time (i mean,, look at my username) and it's difficult to deal with but here are some things that have helped me:

• keep a consistent bedtime and wake-up time

• don't take naps during the day, it's stealing from that nights sleep

• don't watch tv in bed, especially late at night

• if you're unable to fall back asleep after about 30 minutes, go to another room

• do small activities in the other room, but do not turn on the tv. do things like drawing, listening to music, or reading.

• if you take medicine for your insomnia, do NOT over or under dose yourself. take what is prescribed, at the right times

• identify the unhealthy habits you do during the day, and make it your goal to try to cut back on them.

• make sure your room is quiet, dark, and cool. rooms that are too hot or too cold and have too much light or noise are near impossible to sleep in.

• avoid caffeine, alcohol, large meals, and drinking too many liquids before bed

• move the clocks in your room out of view. watching time tick away is going to make you want to sleep less.

• make relaxation your main goal, not sleep. stress is a big cause of insomnia

• meditation has always helped me
