Chapter 4

Hallways

We started the tour at the main hall and dining area. The room was huge, it had a gigantic floor with patterns that shifted and changed when you stepped on them. Tables were lined up with their heads facing the teacher's tables and a large throne-like chair at the front of the room.I looked towards the ceiling and heard Lucy gasp as she did the same. The ceiling was a skylight except for the fact that it showed whatever weather we wanted. White orbs were floating around as a light source for when it was nighttime.

From there Madame Goldenstone led us down hundreds of hallways that snaked around the school, I wondered how she wasn't getting lost. The whole time she showed us all of the classrooms, they had everything there! They had a pool, gym, library, greenhouse, observatory, spell practice room, hospital, sauna, potion room, and more.

All of the 'regular' classrooms were pretty much the same, except for one where an odd looking man with swooping brown hair was wearing suspenders, a bowtie, and a... fez? He didn't notice us when we peeked in and continued to go in and out of a strange blue box muttering to himself, oblivious of his onlookers. I could only manage to catch him say "Wibbly wobbly." Weird.

"Oh that's just Dr. Gallifrey, he tends to wander off on his own quite a bit." Madame Goldenstone explained to us. We then proceeded to tour the outside of the school, the structure itself was a magnificent and grandiose castle-like building. The walls seemed to radiate all of the secrets and history that had taken place there, hidden for countless generations.

There were many outdoor classrooms such as a lake for merpeople, a battle training ground, stables and pens for magical beasts, and a giant plateau positioned behind the castle for angels to practice flying. There was also a forest for elves and a meadow with thousands of exotic flowers for fairies.

We decided to conclude the tour of the school there and go into the town of Mossbell(the academy's neighboring town). It was a quaint little place with houses that had a medieval look to them and cobblestone streets.

We started by visiting all of the school supply shops so that we would know where to go when we needed to purchase things for our classes. There were book stores, cloak stores, pet stores, restaurants, candy/toy stores, and stores that were dedicated to a certain type of magical being.

After we were done looking around the shops we decided to to stop for at a place called Bartleby's. The friendly atmosphere of the place could be felt as soon as you stepped through the doorway. Not one second after we sat down at our table a smiling waitress with red hair and a scottish accent came up to us. "Hi my name is Amy and I will be your server this evening. Can I start you off with something to drink?" She said.

She looked about my age now that I thought about it. I looked over my menu and decided on a drink called a strawberry fizzer, hopefully it wasn't absolutely disgusting. The others ordered the same, all except for Madame Goldenstone who didn't order anything.Amy returned three minutes later with four glasses of water, each with a strange pink, see-through marble next to them.Amy explained that all we had to do was drop our marbles into the water and it would become strawberry soda.

She left after that to give us some time to decide on which meals we would be having. I looked over my menu and decided on something called chake sticks which were like mozzarella sticks except for the fact that they had endless amounts of cheese in them until you ate the entire outside.

I set aside my menu and examined the marble or fizzer closely, it was kind of squishy and clear with a pink tint. I dropped it into my glass and watched it slowly expand until it exploded, releasing bubbles and pink strawberry flavoring into the water. I took a tentative sip, the flavor that entered my mouth was heavenly. It tasted like tart but sweet fresh strawberries in soda form, the crisp flavor left a pleasant aftertaste.

Amy came back to take our orders, Josh and I both got the same thing while Lucy ordered bonsa salad which apparently triggered a new mood every time you ate a new leaf, Maxwell ordered plain spaghetti with tomato sauce, and Madame Goldenstone did not order anything again. Seriously how was she not hungry or thirsty?

Anyway about twenty minutes later Amy returned and gave us our meals and said "Enjoy." with a wink as she left. The chake sticks tasted like regular mozzarella sticks except for the endless amounts of cheese. As we enjoyed our meals we talked about our lives at home and our interests.

Since she had consumed the bonsa salad Lucy's sentences sounded something like this, "Ohmygod you guys! This place is soooooo cool! I can't believe she would leave him. What are you looking at? Whatever I hate you anyways." Luckily the effects wore off every fifteen seconds so these little outbursts of emotion did not last long.

Once we had all finished our meals we headed back to Silverwood, Madame Goldenstone used one of the spheres from the main hall as a flashlight. We walked in silence, only to be disturbed by our footsteps tapping against the cobblestone walkways.

When we got to the castle Madame Goldenstone explained that we would be staying in the 'undetermined' rooms until we found out which beings we were tomorrow. Lucy and I shared a room while Max and Josh shared another, the rooms were plain with two plain metal beds with a thin sheet, a dresser with two drawers, and a bathroom with a sink and a toilet. Two orbs were placed on the dresser for light along with two pairs of plain pajamas. I quickly got changed and splashed water on myself from the sink as a makeshift shower. I then laid down and tried to draw warmth from the thin white sheet, as soon as Lucy entered her bed the orbs turned off.

"Goodnight Kendra." Lucy said.

"Night." I replied and somehow managed to drift into sleep.
