Chapter 11
Cats
The amount of information that had been forced upon me was overwhelming. The swells of confusion that surged over me came and went as the day progressed. I decided not to go to the dining hall for dinner that evening. I trudged wearily through the halls and to my dorm, as soon as I arrived I flopped onto my welcoming bed. A sigh escaped my mouth, the moisture of it condensing and clinging to my pillow.
The only thing that appealed to me at the moment was sleep, but the rumbling of my stomach urged me to get up from my ever-so-comfy position. I moved sluggishly as I half-walked, half-stumbled down the stairs and into the kitchen. I tried to imagine a delectable dinner for me to eat but I was so tired that to only thing that came to my mind was cereal, so cereal is what I had.
After my semi-filling meal, I clambered back up the stairs in probably the most ungraceful manner anyone has ever climbed stairs in. Somehow in all of my dizziness I made it to my bed where I could finally, finally go to sleep. Just before slumber pulled me under I remembered that I hadn’t changed out of my clothes and into my pajamas, and a tiny nagging voice badgered me to get up and fix that issue. It was soon quieted though by a fresh wave of exhaustion that grabbed me and dragged me into a deep and dreamless state.

The next morning was filled with grogginess and the results of sleep deprivation, which made no sense seeing how I got a perfectly normal amount of sleep. I t wasn’t until after lunch that my mysterious exhaustion settled in the very back of my mind. The day was finally improving for me when simultaneously worsened dramatically.
I was on my way to fire magic class when my feet were knocked out from under me and my face had an unpleasant encounter with the hard, stone floor. The jolt of my collision forced its way through my bone structure and left my entire body in pain. My books had flown everywhere, the papers floated gracefully to the ground as if mocking my sudden and clumsy descent. I groaned and pushed myself up, only to find an overly tanned, makeup smothered, sneering face.
The face let out a laugh that was far too light and kind to belong to such an evil looking creature such as herself. The face then leaned back and stated to a group of more people behind her, “Looks like the new girl needs to learn how to walk as well as how to correctly perform magic.” She snickered and then pranced away with her entourage of ‘admirers’ close behind.
I dropped back onto the ground with a heavy sigh and let the coolness of the floor lessen the burning feeling that had crept its way onto my face. A small tap on my shoulder brought me out of my defeated thoughts. When I didn’t respond a soft voice spoke up, “Are you just gonna lie there all day?”
I groaned out a reply, “Is that an option?”
The voice let out a small laugh, “If it were we’d all be laying on the ground.”
A half-hearted chuckle escaped my mouth. “I suppose that’s true.” I rolled over so I could face this kind girl.
When I saw her she was smiling. Not the polite kind, a genuine, happy, smile. Her face was round and her features were soft and fit neatly onto her face. Her warm, brown eyes reminded me of melted chocolate, the kind that oozes and warms even the deepest parts of your heart. Her brown hair fell straight to her shoulders and the tips were dyed a bright purple, unlike my bangs which were more of a pastel violet.
