Billions of microscopically tiny crystals were falling from the sky. Silently covering the world with yet another layer of snow, until the world was a blinding shade of magic. For every time the sunrays hit the surface of the earth, there was this burst of colour. As if God had decided to spatter every colour of paint he had, on a white canvas. Creating beautiful shades that had yet to be named by mankind.
But some people in Seoul had a name for the beauty that occured by the very first snow fall of the year. They called it the fall of the frost blossoms.
Falling from the fluffy, cotton like branches in the sky, turning the ground into a paper sheet. The winters in South Korea were very cold, but the evenings were always full of loud laughter, creating a bubbly, joyous atmosphere. Friends would meet at cafés, while mothers would be holding the hands of their children, scolding the little troublemakers for harassing the street vendors who were desperately rubbing their hands trying to keep their freezing forms warm.
Chun Hwa was standing on the roof of her apartment building, looking down at the everyday hustle of life. As she wrapped her long woollen scarf tightly around her neck and the lower half of her face, she could feel her sensitive ears, that weren't covered hurting a bit, since she had forgotten her hat at home that morning while running to her job, praying a thousand times that she wouldn't be late.
"I should really get my shit together and stop being late for once ", she bitterly thought while heaving a sigh. Already knowing, that nothing could make that habit of hers disappear. The last light of the day was slowly dying making the temperatures drop even more, but Chun Hwa was too deep in thought to realise that. Even though she'd see smiles everywhere, she couldn't help but feel sad. It hurt her to see people ignoring the dark truth, right in front of their eyes. This period in Seoul was downright beautiful for most people. They wouldn't even care about the cold, because they'd know, that at the end of the day, they could bid their goodbyes and go home where dinner, hot water, a soft bed and the welcoming smile of their family would be awaiting them. Forgetting, that not everyone has that privilege in their lives.
Walking to her university Chun Hwa would see infants shivering while lying in the arms of their parents who were shivering equally hard since they were living on the streets. She'd come across old men and women trying to sell goods in the freezing weather, so they'd be able to eat later on. You could find people hidden in the dark alleyways, muttering softly to themselves trying to keep the insanity, that their cursed life brought, at bay.It would be hard for anyone to keep their happiness, while realising that there is another side to the coin of life. But for Chun Hwa it was even more difficult. Somehow she was able to feel other people's emotions. Just by looking in their eyes, she was able to look into a person's very being. Discovering their every feeling, even the ones who were pushed into a far corner of their soul, hidden from even the owner itself.
It was the worst during the winter, where even the blood in everyone's veins would turn into ice and together with the light, their hope would die.
So this was the first chapter guys, I sincerely hope you like it! I'm sorry for possible mistakes, since English is not my first language. But anyways, have a wonderful day ^^
