"Your soulmate is dying"

The words hit Lilli like a truck. Her face turned grim and her stomach twisted into knots.

"How do you know"

The doctor looked apologetic, and with a painful effort  "I've seen this many many times before, when your soulmate is in Imense pain from which they may not recover, there symbol will glow red. I'm so sorry"

"There has to be something I can do"

"There's only one way"

"WHAT, I WILL DO ANYTHING"

"Find him"

Lilli was confused, she had never left her state. But Lilli knew that she needed to save his life, and if this was the only way, then she would do it.

"How"

"Well we tracked your symbol to another hospital in Europe, there's a man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to the arm, leg, and chest, he has a sun on his arm. It's worth a shot"

"I'll do it" Lilli lept up from the table grabbed her mother by her hand and thanked the doctor for his help.

Lilli made it all the way out to the SUV before her mother screeched

"LILLI GLEESON ARE YOU CRAZY? WHAT HAS GOTTEN INTO YOU? YIU CANT TRAVEL ACROSS AN OCEAN BY YOURSELF TO GO FIND A MAN THAT YOUVE NEVER MET! WHAT IF HES A SERIAL KILLER, OR WORSE?" Her mother fumed. Lilli had never seen her mother so angry. Shocked, Lilli stepped back tripping on the curb and falling to the pavement. She landed hard, adding a new level of pain to her burning arm.

"Mom I need to do this, don't you want me to find my true love?"

Her mother looked at her through sorrowful, weepy eyes, "I do, but I will not pay your way. I will never send my daughter away" she said it with such melancholy and hatred that it hung in the air.

They drove home in utter silence. The only sounds that were made were the other cars whizzing past and the sweeping sound of the wind through the open car window.

When Lilli arrived home she immediately went to her room and began to get together a backpack. She stuffed her navy blue backpack with a couple shirts, pants, and undergarments, a hairbrush and a toothbrush along with toothpaste and hair ties. She also packed her life savings, a mere $600 that she had been saving since she was 7.

Lilli grabbed her phone and it's charger stuffed them into the bag and walked downstairs leaving the bag sitting open, gaping like the part of her missing soul. It was becoming evening, 4 o clock. Lilly planned to leave tomorrow before the sun came up. She grabbed a jar of peanut butter and 2 loaves of bread a few apples and bananas, and a butter knife. Her mother was asleep on the couch watching some reality TV program. Lilli snuck past her and into the stockroom. There she grabbed three liter bottles of water and a few energy drinks. And with great effort she lugged her supplies upstairs to her room and shoved it all into the bag, barely managing to fit it all in.

Lilli knew she had a long journey across the sea ahead of her. She pulled her pajamas over her head and flopped onto her bed, exhausted from what the day had brought. She fell asleep with ease.
