Jasmine
"James how much further do we have to walk? It's roasting out here!" the trees in the forest weren't offering the slightest defence against the burning sun.
"not far I promise. You can ride me if you want you know I don't mind." he had been walking shirtless in low hanging shorts and half cab vans, yet he still expected me to keep up and not daydream. His smirk told me he listened in to my thoughts again.
"no! And get out my damn head!" I'm determined to walk all the way, he had said he would take me to meet his family, let me meet them and of course, they meet me, a pretty big step since he doesn't even mention his family to me. It was a couple of miles through the woods he had said, jazz thought how hard could it be to walk a couple of miles in the pleasant heat of the air, now her feet were on fire, the pleasant heat had turned sweltering, her mouth dry and her back hurt but despite falling behind she was so stubborn she would not admit defeat.
"you said that an hour ago!" she bellowed while leaning on a nearby tree.
"an hour ago you were bent double leaning on a tree trying not to bring your breakfast up, a bit like no!" he said with a snicker after stopping in his tracks and turning to face her.
"Yeah well, we had walked miles!"
"not even half a mile, I thought you said you were athletic"
"yeah at swimming and sprinting not walking!" she was growing more annoyed at his quips by the second.
"so you're admitting your unfit," he said victoriously.
"so what if I'm unfit! Stop complaining I'm alive am I not?" jazz pulled herself back to her feet trying her hardest to look strong.
"yes. But we are an hour and a half late!"
jazz huffed and kept plodding along behind him as usual, he was always faster than her
At last after what felt like a lifetime, a small village within the forest just peeked into view, it was not on maps or anything, very well hidden within the forest, so this is what he called 'Town' she did always get confused when he mentioned his home as a town because where she is from is known as a city. This place was so well hidden that in all the years she walked through the forest claiming to know every trail she had never even noticed it before. Jazz was very impressed.
Wolves and human form were everywhere but they all bolted for the trees in every direction when they caught her human scent.
The town was bigger than she expected, trees surrounded it and there was what could only be described as a layer of purple film over the town.
James had told her about it because human eyes cannot see it. From below it just looks like sky and from above it just looks like the tops of trees, James explained this was called a hex spell, sun still filtered through it as if it was not there birds flew through it too. And t only reacher the forest top hight so nothing else flew low enough to penetrate its illusion to the outside world. It was only there to stop humans discovering it while flying overhead but beings like James could see that it was hex because of the purple layer of magic. Apparently, wolves all over the world use spells the same as this to keep their existence a secret, and not just wolves, all supernatural beings in fact.
There was also a human repellant spell that stopped anyone who didn't know about the town or the wolves existence by confusing them and turning them in the opposite direction before they even got close and somehow it erased their memory too so they didn't know, it had taken James hours to explain how all this and that magic users were in all types of supernatural beings but rarely a human can develop these powers, while it is believed they develop these abilities due to extended closeness with supernatural beings it is not proven and many experiments had resulted inconclusive, just looking around town she felt comfortable despite all the eyes peeking at her from around corners, her nervous levels growing but also she felt at home here with James and she couldn't explain without sounding crazy.
"Hey everyone! It's me James, this is jasmine." everyone slowly sniffed the air then began to creep back out of their hiding places and continued what they were doing.
"what are you doing James!" a tall dark haired man around 53 years old going by his looks began to walk towards them. As the two men made eye contact they exchanged a secret conversation within their exchanged looks.
"dad this is my girlfriend Jasmine," James said confidently as jasmine placed her hand in front of the man to shake with his.
"I don't care who she is humans are forbidden in this place, especially one so close to heat, the young blood will go wild if they catch her scent, now get rid of her she should not have seen us."
jazz felt like the wind had just been knocked out of her lungs and she could feel the tears growing in her eyes, she didn't know whether to laugh or cry, or even get angry. The man she had lost sleep over meeting for weeks had just blatantly dismissed her, he didn't even look at her, and that comment about heat?
She knew he did not approve of his sons love interest but James was determined it wouldn't be all that bad.
