James
"you did what?" I shout at my father
"i gave her the choice to stay as a prisoner or leave the pack land a free woman, I must admit I am surprised she chose to stay." my father says with genuine surprise on his face.
"so you were just going to let my mate leave?" I ask
"right now we don't even know she is human let alone your mate and clearly if she chose to leave and you didn't feel the distance there would be no bond present."
"your wrong father, its there I feel it, it burns in my veins." I say holding my chest to emphasise my point.
"perhaps its time we consult the pack elder and see if he knows a way to fix this mess." my father grumbles.
"you mean break the bond?" I question as fear runs through me.
"if that is what it takes for us to neutralise her without hurting you." my father vehemently states.
"i dont believe you are saying things like this instead of supporting me." I growl feeling the anger trying to turn me.
"we do support you, its just the best thing to do would be to distance yourself and protect the pack. The true mate bond you say you have must be broken by the fanger bite or curse so far afflicting her." my father says clearly trying to reason with me but I will not listen any more of his madness.
"my bond with Jasmine is just as true as the day we first mated." I demand.
"but you didn't mate did you." my father says harshly and it feels as though he physically punched me in the gut, his eyes seemed to reflect my pain as his own words resonated within him.
"son, I didn't..." he begins but I hear no more as I sprint from the room tearing my clothing away and changing forms from man to wolf while dashing into the safety of the treeline, my father tries to communicate through the pack link but I block all comunication, I need some time alone to think which quite frankly in a pack as large as this is a very rare commodity, what I really need right now is my mate but my father is making that increasingly difficult.
I spend a few hours chasing rabbits and other similar creatures such as squirrels, basically keeping myself busy and allowing my wolf to have time of its own, there is usually too much to do in the pack to even consider an afternoon such as the one was currently undertaking but clearing my mind seemed the only way I was going to think of something I can rationalise to my father at the moment, he seems intent on blaming all of these recent mishaps on jasmine lately although I believe it is his way of trying to place blame for the fact that my mother has not left their room in a week now. When news of my lost pup broke through pack everyone was rightfully heartbroken though I believe none more so than my mother, who though she initialy tried to hide it for the good of the pack seemed to be suffering some form of depression at the loss of a grandpup she did not even know to be expecting.
"son?" my mothers voice rung out in my brain loud and clear.
"mom?" I ask worried and confused now halting in my run.
"son, you cannot blame your father for his actions, he is truly doing what he is for you, however misguided and narrow-minded as he is." she says in her ussual tone.
"how is breaking my bond for my benefit?" I ask trying not to take my anger out on her.
"son there are things you have not been told, I do not agree with secrets but there is a reason your father is keeping them in this case, we know though that he wont break your bond dont we."
"secrets? What secrets? What do you know?" I shout no longer hiding any anger.
"she spoke latin to tom." my mother says matter of fact.
"she also seems to attack on instinct and stalks around her room, we have seen it on camera but she does not seem to be aware and more disturbingly seems to be growing and retracting fangs at will subconciously." my mother states and I feel my insides chill.
"all of that is true?" I ask begging my mother silently to say no but I already know the answer.
"i am sorry son, but we know she is still your mate and I will stand by her as long as you done, she is family." she says ernestly and I feel her heartbreak along with mine.
"what do I do mom?" I say sounding everybit the scared child I am right now.
"i dont know son, but trust in your father, we know what it is to lose a pup and he will do anything to keep you safe no matter what, I will try to talk some sense into him I promise, remember you are the best gift we ever received and we will all do anything to keep you safe at any cost" my mother says and I can hear the emotion in her voice.
"thanks mom." I say before closing the connection.
Allowing my mind to run over all the information from the last three days I can not believe just a few months ago I was turning Jasmine and now myself and most of the pack are debating the fate of my mate.
"James?" a timid voice says from behind me.
"oh hi Claudia" I say trying to seem happier than I am.
"am I interupting?" she says lowering her head to me.
" no I was just thinking things over," I say honestly
"well I am here if you need me." she says stepping forward and placing a petite hand on my shoulder, normally I would shy away from the contact out of respect for my mate but today it felt nice to have even that slight contact with someone genuinely caring and not trying to push their opinions onto me.
"thanks I guess I needed that." I say placing my hand on hers with a small somewhat sad smile.
"i wish I could stop your pain." she says and I remember at that moment she is a fated omega and her talent is sensing others emotions through touch as though they were her own. I also realise we are both stood in a clearing inches apart and completely naked and my eyes widen as I casually push away from her reach.
"i should check on my mate." I tell her truthfully and she nods turning away from me. I dont pause for her to speak I change to my wolf and rush back to town contacting Tom as I run.
"any update on Jasmine?"
"not yet though your father reckons he can fix something soon, I doubt your going to like it." I think he might be correct.
"im on my way to see her." I say back, I get no reply and go straight to her cell only to be surprised by an unguarded hallway and an empty room.
