I came back to my senses and took a step back, my combat mode was on so I was ready to attack this man any moment and I would do it with pleasure. My thoughts disgusted me of how perceived death such a sweet thing
"Who are you?" I asked, still gripping on my scissors
"Call me Lance, that's my 21st century identity" he showed his face at last, I couldn't keep my eyes off him he looked innocent but he seemed mischievous when he smiles; he almost resembled Lukas in a way "Does this smile give you flashbacks when we had that moment of-"
"-what do you know about AVNAR"
"It's another term for Identity crisis"
I watched him relax on my couch, he didn't seem to be lying. I sat on my bed and folded my hands
"Kindly elaborate"
"Sometimes as hunters we go though identity crisis, we live so long because of the vampiric venom running through our veins. A part of us does die slowly until our humanity is gone, Facades often will go insane trying to find a part of us that is human which is a must if we are protectors" he looked at me warily "I mean, don't you feel it? The sensational feeling that wants to break people's necks with a smile? That's why AVNAR was created" he flicked his finger then fire appeared "These abilities are unstable, only the strongest Facade can endure the venom...but none of us cannot except for one."
"Who?"
"That's a secret milady plus my life would be in danger if I give out too many information. But let me tell you this, the AVNAR went missing years ago which made the elders go crazy. It was their symbol of hope for the Facades who went cuckoo at that time so be careful milady with your fellow facades....they can hide crazy pretty well nowadays"
"I'm not sure what to do with this information"
"Hide it, keep it, pretend you know nothing and act ignorant. The less you pretend to know the better" he advised "I actually came here because a pretty cousin sent me to warn you"
"So you know that my best friend was kidnapped?" I exclaimed
"Yes and calm down, you're still in combat mode" he muttered "You won't like it either"
"What do you mean?"
before Lance replied, the door to my room swung open, my mom appeared wearing a strange robe with strange symbols
"Honey you're still awake" she says casually
I turned and Lance was gone, I noticed my window was open. He was fast, too fast. I turned to my mother coyly "Insomnia" I said flatly.
I decided to go to school today even when my parents told me not to. I have to check on Gemma if she's alright and tell her about Debra's situation. I put on my everyday clothes and even grabbed a sandwich then rushed out of the mansion. I was frustrated about everything that's been happening around me. I almost stumbled upon arriving, then I saw Faye coming towards me looking a bit upset, I was a bit surprised that she was even talking to me
"What do you want?" I spat
"Someone's in a foul mood" Faye replied, looking a bit hurt "You didn't come to my party last night, I was worried"
I blinked my eyes trying to comprehend the situation, why was Faye acting like Gemma? Even her voice was similar to hers. I looked down on her torn jeans and hoodie, it wasn't her usual style. Plus, Faye hated sneakers . It's like they switched bodies
"Well?" she continues while giving off her heartwarming smile "Aren't you gonna explain like you used to? I mean I understand you hate parties but you could've just told me"
Faye was giving me the creeps, seeing her act as if she knew me all her life was not a very comfortable situation for me. She also followed me to class, and she didn't seem bothered by people who ignored her; the old her would go crazy if no one said hello or acknowledge her presence.
"The party at Kathy's place wasn't exciting as going to my Grandmother's dog's funeral" she muttered "I was trying to contact you but your cell was always busy, what is up with you?"
"Faye, I know this is going to be a strange question but um...why are you talking to me?"
"Why wouldn't I?"
there was an awkward silence between us but Faye broke it "Whatever. Just promise me that you would answer my calls. Gotta go, I have to go to the library
"Right" I replied uneasily.
I easily spotted Lukas at the corner of my eye, I waited for a good time to grab him. He looked confused when I dragged him at the corner of the music room "What is going on?" I asked "I can't find Gemma and Faye is all over me! She never talks to me in that manner and she goes to the library! Faye hates the library"
"Stay calm" he answered "I know what's going on, I was actually looking for you"
"Well?"
"You parents, it seems that they have a pretty little secret up their sleeves" he continued "I'm sure you've heard about the AVNAR misidentification"
"Yeah some sort of identity crisis" I muttered "I still don't get it"
"The AVNAR went missing 100 years ago and the elders of our entire clans are in search for it, the AVNAR has the ability to reproduce another identity for the Facades who have no hope of recovering from insanity. We are as cursed as the vampires....and we will be one of them without the AVNAR"
"What does this have to do with my parents?"
"They know where it is and we need you to find it"
I suddenly stepped back "Why is Faye.....acting strange"
Run....run now! I suddenly heard her voice, the voice that lives deep within me
He's responsible! He's responsible!
Lukas looked at me wearily then grabbed my throat. His eyes were red, so red with blood.
"Let go of me!" I cried, he was so strong and he kept his eyes on me. Nobody was there, I noticed that everyone was already in class. My toes didn't reach the floor anymore, I was gonna die right here
"There nerve of creating a child that looked exactly like my fiancé!" he says unhappily "Trying to befriend you and lie was the hardest part of my mission....May you must know that your precious Debra is now a vampire, she willingly joined us. Hear that? Your dearest friend is dead. As part of your parents' understanding that you need a human friend to keep you normal they hypnotized Faye to befriend you and placed false memories. Oh, and your friend Gemma? She's dead....I killed her."
May fainted, I had to take over. I broke free from his grip and slashed his shirt.
