July 15. Rob sat drinking coffee asking himself the same question. What should I do. He couldn't confess about his current state to anyone who would jeopardize his project but at the same time he couldn't make heads or tails of what is happening and how it happened. There was one more problem he was worried about, what if the project wasn't a success and whether he would lose his career, his ambitions and deep down his own conscience , what if it kills someone. His hand shivered with fear and guilt. Hot coffee fell all over him and he screamed with pain. Everyone noticed how strange his behavior was but nobody seemed to care. As time moved slowly when your mind is playing hide and seek, he looked at the countdown. Less than an hour left. The guts to do the right thing might end his life which was more important to him that anything else so he stayed quiet as he watched the clock counting down. He then realized one small detail. Subject 75 is not in the lab. Where could it be. He walked over to the computer which kept all the details about the events. Typed in his access code since he was a senior employee and head of the department, he could access even the top secret and hidden files. While he stood there browsing, he found some interesting turn of events, not just subject 75, few more were injected without his consult and they are all kept under observation in a secret facility deep underground the same building. Why would they do something like this behind his back. Even without his memories, he hasn't lost the curiosity he always had. He justifies his actions by being optimistic that he has 45 mins left and he could find some clue and whether it would be successful. Without anyone noticing, he slipped down the hall to the elevator. He looked at the numbers on the wall, he remembered that he saw 725 written on the side of the picture while browsing. He typed 725 and for the first time after a long 5 days of misery, he felt hope. The elevator moved down after it crossed parking -2, the monitor didn't show any number. It moved down for a little more time and stopped. Is that it, he thought to himself as the door opened to a large hallway. Everything was dark and as he walked through the room, the room began to light up from the ground. The sensors on the ground activated a dim blue light for a certain diameter with him as the center. “Kinda cool “ as he said it , he realized he never used the word kinda before because it always sounded funny and inappropriate to him. He walked to the left side as he heard something moving. He began to see cages. He also saw a switch on the wall nearby. He flipped the switch and blue light went off instead the whole room got lit from bright white light. He heard hisses as he switched it on, apparently the room was dark for many days or months and this is the first time whatever was in here saw any light. There were so many cages all around the room and filled with animals. Apes, rats, pigs and something which he wasn't expecting. Two humans heavily sedated. It was unbelievable and unethical. He didn't know what to or how to react. He observed all the animals first. Everything has distinctive features and looked quite different from the normal species. Most of the animals went through intense mutation. There bone structure doesn't seem to be normal at this state. None of them made any sound, they just looked at his like a new born baby seeing an old man. He could feel their curiosity and eagerness to know what he was. The serum somehow made them smarter. At least that's the best conclusion he could come up with. He moved to the two human subjects lying inside a glass box. The vitals were normal, the box was oxygen free and none of them had any deformities like the animals. Then why were they kept here, maybe they were in coma, how could they move on with the plan if the subjects were in coma , they were given sedatives, they were made to sleep for some unknown cause, he thought to himself and looked at the time. “Shit, i'm late” he screamed and ran towards the elevator. He felt the whole place shaking. This is it, he thought to himself as the missile launched to the atmosphere. Satellite footage on the New York Times Square showed multiple missiles shot from various places each having a particular radius of explosion, and the missiles cover the gap for each other covering the Earth. Within minutes the missiles were almost at the edge of the atmosphere and burst with a bright blueish green gas and spreading everywhere rapidly. All living beings were exposed to O2-SOS until the gas wore off from the atmosphere. It was told to last for two days straight and there will not be any side effects or fatalities. Rob reached his lab, looking out through the window, wondering what would happen next. New era for both humans and animals yet to be discovered starts in two days.
