"Did you hear?" Britney, one of the populars whispered to her friend, Dee. "We have a new physics teacher!" She was leaning in towards her friend, trying desperately to whisper quietly, though she failed miserably.
"I've heard," Dee replies, flicking her long brunette hair out of her eyes. "though, I haven't seen him yet." She huffed, still trying to get the hair out of her face, her curls making that task a lot harder than needed. "I've heard that he's hot!" She glanced at Britney, before resuming her battle with her hair.
Their gossiping is halted when an extremely attractive man entered the classroom, dressed in a nice brown suit with blue pin-stripes and white sneakers. He must be the teacher they were talking about, to be honest, I can't blame them. Just, wow.
"Good morning, class. Are we sitting comfortably?" His south London accented voice asks. Even his accent is flawless. He turns to write on the board, 'Mr Smith' and 'Physics' is messily sprawled in white chalk on the blackboard. He turns back to the class, "So, physics. Physics, eh?" Where is he going with this? "Physics. Physics. Physics! Physics.Physics, Physics, Physics, Physics. Physics. Physics. Physics." Oh, that's where. "I hope one of you is getting all this down."
I look down at my notebook, to see I have in fact written it all down in quotation marks. I snort, Mr Smith looks at me, looks down at my page, before looking back up at me with an amused smile. I blush, why do I always sit at the front of the class? This is why Nina calls me a nerd! Well, she did...
"OK, let's see what you know." He turns his attention back towards the class. "Two identical strips of nylon are charged with static electricity and hung from a string so they can swing freely." He looks over the students, giving them a second to process what he just said. "What would happen if they were brought near each other."
My hand, as well as Milo's shot up. Mr Smith looked between both of us before choosing Milo.
"Yes, er, what's your name?"
"Milo." The boy replies, adjusting his glasses on his nose.
"Milo," Mr Smith smiles, "off you go!"
"They'd repel each other because they have the same charge." He answers, I slowly nod to his answer, the teacher quickly gave me a side glance, before smiling a Milo.
"Correctamundo!" I snort again, silently this time. "A word I have never used before and hopefully never will again. Question two, I coil up a thin piece of micro-wire and place it in a glass of water. Then turn on the electricity and measure to see if the water's temperature is affected." He pauses to take a quick breath. "My question is this. How do I measure the electrical power going into the coil?" Easy, for me, that is. This is way too hard for the rest of the students. This time, only my hand shot up into the air. Mr Smith obviously thought that this question was too hard for us, as well, if his surprised look he shot me is anything to go by.
"Yes, um... Sorry, what's your name?"
"Emily, sir." I reply shyly.
"Emily! The answer?"
"Measure the current and PDs in an ammeter and voltmeter. "
"Correct!" He still seemed confused. "Emily, tell me this. True or false. The greater the dampening of the system, the quicker it loses energy to its surroundings." I smile slightly, my shyness preventing me from smirking.
"False." I answer simply.
"What's a non-coding DNA?"
I stop myself sighing. "The answer's in the question, sir." He gave me a 'go on' look, I continue. "It's DNA that doesn't code for a protein."
