CHAPTER THREE - Oh, your poor head!
Nadine
I stepped out of the car, I had only seen the Brighawood building. It was a massive, grand building. Parents had to pay a lot to send their troublesome teens here.
My heart hurt. I wasn't going to be able to see Austin. I quickly put my finger to my lip, to reminisce the last kiss we had shared yesterday.
This is a place where bad people went, and I am a bad person, so it was meant to be...
I looked over my shoulder as I watched my dad lift my suitcase from the boot. He hadn't been able to look me in the eye since my argument with Linda.
"Come, Nadine." Dad said, instructing me to follow him.
I followed my dad through the door to the main office. It was like a doctors waiting room, but with two old women sat in messy desks in the middle.
"Nadine Coal?" One with a tight, grey bun said sharply.
She turned her head to look at me. She looked me up and down, to the tip of her nose.
"You need to say your goodbyes now, you have already missed first period Miss Coal."
My dad looked me in the eyes at last.
"Goodbye Nadine. I will see you at half term." Dad said with a nod.
I was lucky half term was only two weeks away.
"Bye dad." I mumbled.
We looked at each other for a while longer, then he walked off, turning back to look at me three times.
"Come on Miss Coal, stop wasting time." She snapped.
She hobbled into the next room, which lead to a long corridor.
"I am Mrs Brigastaff, dorm checker and advisor, any worries or concerns speak to me." She said.
"These are the boys dorms, the girls are in a separate building outside."
She pushed the fire door open, and pointed at the building on the far left.
"There it is."
Brilliant. I had to walk across a muddy courtyard in the rain.
"Come on, hurry up!" Mrs Brigastaff snapped.
I hurried up, dragging my suitcase with me. The rain brought back a memory of me and Austin walking home from school in the rain. I remember slipping and falling, but Austin had caught me before I had landed in the mud. He held me in his arms for a few minutes, smiling, then he put me up straight.
I now wanted Austin. I missed Austin.
"Come in, Miss Coal." Mrs Brigastaff said as she opened the door.
I walked into the dorm. It was a dark corridor, with doors next door to each other. At end of the corridor was a staircase.
"You're upstairs. By the way, you'll be rooming with a girl called Brianne. The girls a pain, no one lasts with her for very long, mind you." The old bag mumbled.
It was hard trying to get the suitcase up the stairs, I had to pick it up and drag it along. When I finally made it to the top, I was out of breath.
Mrs Brigastaff was unlocking the door.
"Brianne, why aren't you in class?" Mrs Brigastaff said, mortified.
"Mrs Brigastaff, why aren't you in the office doing all your shitty little paperwork?" Brianne answered back.
