Not As It Seems

Robin slowly woke up and looked around, they all had collars around their necks and they were wrapped in chains. As everyone else woke up Robin saw that they were in a large cage and they were chained to the floor of said cage. The cage was hanging by over ten different chains so they were overlooking everything in the room.

When they were all fully awake Robin heard a dripping sound, he wasn't sure what it was but he wanted to find out. Half of the room was consumed by shadows, whatever that sound was coming from had to be in the darkness. Then they all heard a voice, "You're finally awake."

A man with a lab coat walked into the light, his coat had strange bits of green on it. Red Arrow looked angry, "Where are we?"

Kid Flash looked irritated, "Where's Omen?"

Superboy tried to get out of the chains, "And what's with the collars and chains?"

The man raised an eyebrow, "Omen? You mean that thing? It's in this very room." The man took a small device with several buttons on it out of his pocket and he pressed one. The lights on the other side of the room turned on and they all gasped, even the Leaguers.

Omen was stuck on a number of thin spikes that were coming out of the floor and he wasn't moving. One of the spikes was dangerously close to his heart and another went through his shoulder. Eight or nine went through his arms and legs, and five went through various parts of his stomach.

Omen was barely breathing and the man just looked at Omen with disgust, Omen was bleeding heavily, his blood was green. That wasn't right though, Robin had seen Danny get cut once and his blood was red so why was it green? The man turned to them, "That thing will live, I can't say the same for you though."

Martian Manhunter glared at the man, "What did you do to him?"

The man scoffed, "Nothing that it can feel, that thing isn't even human, in fact it isn't even alive."

Robin was absolutely pissed, "What are you talking about?"

The man smirked, "I suppose I can explain since you won't be alive much longer. That thing is a ghost, we turned him into one about six years ago, it doesn't have any powers but we can still use it for tests."

Robin's eyes widened, Danny had disappeared six years ago, did Danny leave because of what they did? And did he say tests, this bastard ran tests on Danny and didn't even have the decency to think of him as a person?! Miss Martian wished she could punch this guy in the face, "Quit calling him an it, and what do you mean he's a ghost?!"

The man laughed, "That thing isn't a person, it shouldn't even exist, the only reason it's still here is because it's a test subject. We killed it six years ago and now it's a ghost, it was useless as a human so we killed it."

Robin felt like his head was starting to spin, they killed Danny, that's why he looked so different. He couldn't believe it, was this why he said that Danny had to die so Omen could live? But what about why Danny started killing, and what did he mean test subject?

Batman growled, "Then why is he an assassin, and what do you mean test subject?" Leave it to Batman to ask the important questions, Robin would have asked if he hadn't suddenly lost the ability to speak. Everyone wanted to hear the answer to Batman's questions, for some reason they also felt like they didn't want to hear the answer.

The man sighed, "It didn't want to be an assassin, it had this no kill rule and it refused to hurt anyone. The only reason it did was because we threatened a friend it had, we said we'd kill it's friend unless it started killing people. Now it only kills criminals and yet it still hates killing, it never would have done it if it's friend weren't in danger."
