Chapter 26

Liam looks so shocked. He starts to cry as I hold up my sword. I couldn't hurt him. I grab his hand, pulling him to a corner. "Bailey, the one who got to help us backstage," he says. He swoops the few strands of hair covering my eyes. He looked like he saw a diamond. His eyes filled with awe, his face filled with admiration. "What are you doing here," he asks. I put my hand on his chest, relieving an ugly wound. It was covered in blood with splinters all over it. "Not very good," he said. "Tell me how you became a peacekeeper," I ask. "It is a long story, but ok," he said.

I started to take out the splinters as he told the story. It turns out he did it to cause a distraction so they don't find Louie, since he was wanted by the Capitol. In the middle of the story, all the splinters were gone, so I started to clean the blood. "How did you ever get like this," I ask after the story. "A girl hit me with a knife," he says. "It's ok, it's all better now," I say. His fingers and mine ice around each other, settling in a good place. He smiled at me. "The damage heal when I look at you though," he says softly. I smile at him. "Then I guess it's both physical and emotional," I say again.

Kinda like we could read each other's minds, we started kissing. My arms trickle around him, holding him for balance. This feeling, however, felt different than last time. This time, it felt as we were meant for each other. My stomach felt like someone placed a bonfire but it is a warmth feeling instead of a burning feeling. My heart was moving in a slower rate, and it felt good. When we stopped, our eyes meet. "Pain isn't felt until you know it's there," he says. I guess that's true.

I hear a gun fire as a peacekeeper heads over to us. He aims his gun at Liam's forehead. "What have we told you about being friends with the enemy," he says. I leap at the gun, knocking it out of its hands. Then, it falls, along with the peacekeeper. I get up and start to run. Running not just to get to the others. Running to save Zayn.
