Chapter 33

District 13, my home! My home, my dog, my school, my friends, the dance studio, but the most horrifying. My friends.

"Did Joci make it out alive," I ask.

Liam shakes his head.

Joci! The first person I met when I moved here. The girl who stood up for me when I was being bullied. The girl who understood me when I was hurting inside.

Gone, all gone.

I throw myself onto Liam and cry into his heart. "She is the girl who stood up for me even when things were bad," I cry. He pets my head and calms me down. "Its ok," he said. The doctors run in, but stop. They see me crying while Liam holds me like my mom did when I was a baby. "You need to go," she says. Everyone leave, leaving me. I continue crying into my pillow. The salty tears sink into the pillow case onto the pillow.

A few weeks later

I stand up, wobbling. Annie, the nurse that helped me through, held me. we became really good friends, and I learned she was my age but was a doctor anyway. "I'll help you around," she says. I was speechless that she was risking her job just for me. "Thank you," I say. She nods, hugging me. "It's what friends do," she said. She leads me out the door, while all my friends were waiting outside. "OMG, YOU CAME," I yell. I hug each on until I get to Liam. I stop in my steps as out eyes meet. My hands go around his head as he does the same to me. We press out noses against each other. "Pain doesn't hurt until you know it's there," I say. We tilt out heads opposite ways, making our heads fall, forcing a kiss. I put my heart against his chest as he puts his arm around my back. When we finally stop, we face each other. My eyes were staring into his. I turn to Annie, hugging her. "Thank you, for opening my eyes about true love," I say hugging her. "Wait, where are we," I ask.

"You are in District 2," she says.
