"Come on, already! What are you waiting for?" Jungkook yelled from the bottom of the garden, one of his hands on the partially opened gate.

"Taehyung! Hurry up!"

Taehyung, standing frozen on the top of the steps, shook his head, fear placid in his eyes.

Jungkook walked over to him.

"Hey, what's wrong? C'mon, it's a beautiful night for a walk." He grabbed the elder boy's hand and tried to pull him.

"No, Jungkook, you don't understand." Taehyung shrugged his hand off. "When I said, walk, I meant a walk in my garden, not outside."

Jungkook pouted, but huffed, "Fine," before digging his hands into his jacket pockets.

Taehyung smiled at him apologetically, before starting walking along the fence of his tiny garden.

"Ugh, even your grass needs trimming," Jungkook complained, looking around as he joined him.

"Well," Taehyung muttered, "There's not much time to do any trimming or pruning when you're a self abusing other personality for most of the day and only get about six hours of being yourself every single day."

Silence prevailed for the next five minutes.

"Sorry." Jungkook mumbled at last, shame laced in with his words.

Taehyung smiled. "Nah, it's cool."

Silence again.

"So," Taehyung tried to lighten the mood. "Tell me a bit about yourself."

"Ah, there's not much to tell, to be honest..."

Jungkook then proceeded to engage Taehyung in his own life, his likes and dislikes, his family, and other stuff like his love for neatness, his weakness for Timberlands, and how he preferred to simply wear a plain white T-shirt when going out.

"What about relationships?" Taehyung asked. "You got a special girl back home?"

He could see Jungkook's cheeks colour up in the silver moonlight.

"Nah, I... I'm homo, so..." He rubbed the back of his neck and looked away.

"Oh. That's....cool." Taehyung replied, feeling hot around the ears as well, for reasons unbeknownst to himself.

"Yeah...." Jungkook cleared his throat. "Anyway, what about you? Where's your family?"

Taehyung felt a pang of longing for his late parents as he replied shortly in a monotone voice, "Dead. Passed away when I was seven."

"I'm sorry."

Taehyung nodded, not wanting to discuss it any further.

He noticed the younger shiver, so he stopped walking and offered to go back inside, to which the latter agreed rather enthusiastically.

"Tomorrow, I'll make you mashed potatoes." Jungkook promised, as they were about to part ways.

Taehyung smiled and nodded.

That simple gesture stirred something inside the younger. He suddenly wanted to protect Taehyung, protect him against his other self, protect him against the abuse.

He didn't want to let him go. Could he really blame himself? He was from a caretaking company after all.

"Hey Taehyung?" He said.

"Mm?" Taehyung cocked his head to one side curiously.

"Please....." Jungkook wanted to say so many things, he wanted to pour his heart out. Instead, he uttered two of the lamest words he had ever heard.

".....be safe."

Taehyung gave him an odd look, but shrugged and replied, "Sure, I guess."

Jungkook watched as he went upstairs and disappeared around the landing.

Berating himself for his lameness, he walked to his room as well.
