I sighed loudly and dropped the pen in my hand on the book in front of me. I was so done with studying for now.
My eyes, on their own accord, strayed to the window and peeped outside at the beautiful day. The sky was as blue as it could get and the sun shining brighter and brighter each minute. I needed some of that light in my life.
Lately it seemed that my entire routine was too monotonous, so repetitive and robotic. The stress and all the pressure was getting to me - its senior year, which meant college, which meant applying and possibly getting rejected.
I, like any other student, had my dream colleges too, and one of them was MIT but sometimes I feared that I aim too high or try to hard, see myself reaching heights I cannot.
With another sigh, I tried to stop my train of thoughts from going in the same stressful direction and instead let my eyes drift to the room in front of me.
A small smile and a light flush took over my cheeks as I thought of the evening before, when I had spent the day with everyone at Cole's house, mucking around and watching movies. It was like a stress buster evening, especially the part where Cole had pulled me into his room, kissed me breathless on my neck and shoulder without getting an inch near my lips. We had layed on his bed after everyone had left and talked about nothing and everything, laughing and enjoying ourselves until I had realised that it was already 2 am.
A sound downstairs made me jump out of my reverie as I looked away from the window having zoned out on the leaves bathed in the yellow light of the day. Frowning to myself, I crept towards the upper staircase landing, heart beating loudly.
Maybe its a burglar. Or a cyborg.
Cursing myself at the ridiculous thoughts, I slowly started down, not bothering to pick up a weapon like the idiot I am.
Reaching the bottom of the landing, I walked towards the kitchen where I could here noises and slowly crept to the open doorway which was directly in front of the open front door. I could hear the murmur of voices coming from the kitchen, light streaming put of it. Walking forward slowly, I peeked in through the entry way and saw Matt talking to someone in front of him. I breathed a slow sigh of relief.
"Matt, what are you -"
I gasped out loud quite dramatically and stopped mid sentence as Matt turned around and the person in front of him came into view. There were about 2 seconds of absolute silence before I screamed in happiness.
Matt winced and the man in front of him stepped forward quickly and hugged me tight. I was laughing and talking all at once, so happy to see him after so many years.
"Oh my god, Rhyson I can't believe you're actually here." I laughed while saying this and hugged him tight. He spun me around in happiness as he laughed in joy too.
I leaned back and studied his handsome face lit up in a grin and couldn't help but squeal again as Matt rolled his eyes next to me. I was so happy to see him.
Smacking him loudly on his left cheek with my lips I hugged him hard again and looked forward at the open doorway.
My heart almost stopped at the sight of Cole standing at the doorway with a tense posture and threatening eyes as he observed what I just did.
*******
After almost 15 minutes of confusingly tense and uncomfortably spent time in the kitchen as Rhyson, my old childhood best friend and I caught up (with Cole observing us while he leaned on the counter with eyes narrowed), we finally all went our separate ways.
Rhyson had decided to go back to his hotel where he was staying for a couple of days whilst visiting from Orlando, where he stayed, and we had already made dinner plans. I was extremely excited because it had been years since I met him.
