"But why do I have to go?" I asked my dad, throwing my arms up dramatically to emphasise my point. "I already met them, so I don't really need to go to their party, right?"

My dad was standing in front of the mirror in his room, and Matt was standing next to him. I took a moment to acknowledge how similar they looked, with their genetically big frames. My dad had the classic salt and pepper hair, with more of pepper than salt, while Matt had more of a brownish shade, like me. While dad's and Matt's eyes were a capturing shade of green, mine were just a boring grey.

Both Dad and my brother were wearing fancy tuxes, adjusting their ties in front of the mirror, making them look even more similar. I had to admit though; they both looked pretty damn good. Both of their hands simultaneously moved the ties they had on, shaking the knots and looking like twins with their synchronised movements.

They failed to put on the ties correctly though. Sighing at their incompetence I walked over and re-did my dad's tie, pulling the knot firmly in place as my dad looked down at me.

My dad sighed. "Just come will you, Brooke? You'll have fun there. Besides, you barely come to these parties anymore," He said. "And please, wear something nice and presentable." He said and Matt snorted at that, chuckling under his breath. I shot him a dirty look.

Both of them knew me well - I would have showed up in jeans if it were up to me.

I was slightly apprehensive of Matt coming to the formal party that the neighbours were hosting to sort of introduce themselves in the neighbourhood. It happened a lot here because most people who lived in this neighbourhood were pretty rich.

Matt, as I knew well enough already, flirts with anything that has a pulse, and that's what scares me. This party is bound to have a lot of ladies, and Matt's presence would make the party even more annoying - girls tended to try and befriend me to get his number or, even worse, think I was his girlfriend and shoot me hateful stares all the time.

I walked to Matt and swatted his hands away as it fumbled with the knot and retied the tie, yanking it down hard until Matt made a choking sound. I smiled sweetly up at him and loosened it again as he rubbed his throat and winced.

"That's what you get for siding with dad."

"I still love you though." Matt pulled my cheeks hard, making me wince this time.

I rolled my eyes at his immature behaviour and walked out of the room and into mine, going straight to the closet and picking a dress from the back.

I changed into the dress, which was a white lace dress with capped sleeves.  The dress hugged all my curves in a way that made me self conscious, therefore the reason I never really wore anything like it at all. I hated my butt, which I think was too large for my height, and my slightly large thighs, not to mention my not so flat stomach. Basically, I was disproportionate.

Pulling on my converse I mentally calculated how much homework I had to finish and according to that what time I'd have to leave from the party. I then swiped on some lipgloss and covered my dark circles slightly. Declaring myself done after making a waterfall like style with my hair I walked downstairs.

My dad gave me a silent nod of appreciation, a kind of way to say 'you've cleaned up good'. I was a little offended that it was accompanied by a surprised look, but then it was accepted since I never dress up.

He got up from his seat on the couch in the living room, and trekked up the stairs to get his phone.

"I'll be waiting outside with Matt, okay dad?" I yelled up at him and he yelled back an 'Okay'. Matt got up and offered me his hand with a cheeky smile, and, smiling, I took it, interlocking our elbows together.
