Evie's P.O.V -

I don't want to go to the gallery anymore.
When I was in that garden with Flynn I just wanted to kiss him and run away into the sunset with him, but I know I can't do that. It's not my place to just come from out of nowhere and change everything.

I end up just wandering about the town.

That's when I see a familiar face.

"Evie? Evie Blake?"

"Matt?"

"Yeah. God, it's been ages."

"It has been." I cross my arms. Matt wasn't exactly the greatest person in the world in high school. He screwed girls for sport and was not happy when I didn't want to be on his list.

"I'm sorry about how things were when we were in school. I was... Well, I was an ass."

"You're apologising?"

"Yeah. I was a jerk."

"Wow. Thanks Matt. I forgive you." I smile up at him.

"So how've you been?"

"Eh, same old, same old," I say.

"No way. I've heard you're becoming pretty popular as a pianist."

"I try to be modest. What about you?"

"I'm training to become a cop."

"That's really great!"

"Yeah. I've grown up a lot. You haven't changed a bit though."

"Actually I feel like a completely different person some days." Am I really opening up to Matt right now? This is one hell of a day.

"That's okay. Everyone has bad days."

I nod and adjust my scarf.

"It was nice seeing you."

"Yeah. You too."

"Bye."

"Oh, actually. Can I get your number so we can talk more?"

"Matt, I'm flattered but-"

"Not like that," he chuckles. "I have a girlfriend. I promise that this is completely platonic."

"I'm so happy for you! Okay, pass it here."

I type my number into his phone and wave goodbye as he walks away.

I think that may have just made my day. Matt is a good guy now? That's actually kind of mind blowing. I wonder who he's dating.

I get a call from someone.

"Hello?"

"Hey, I finished the interview. I can come pick you up."

"Okay. I'm near..." I look around and realise I've walked in a circle. "I'm near the garden centre."

"Really? Did you run into...?"

"Yeah. We talked."

"Oh my god! What did he say?"

"I'll tell you about it in person."

- - -

"I knew it! I knew he still loved you! Why would you say no?"
