The loud thumping on a door jolted me awake, and I frowned, wondering why someone would knock on the initiates door and not just burst in.

The feeling of skin brushing against mine on my lower back made my eyes snap open, as my brain tried to figure out what was going on.

"For fuck sake." A low voice muttered by my ear, then there was a weight on top of me for a slight second, before whoever it was got up and headed in the direction of the door.

I blinked a few times, watching the figure walk away from me... And then I remembered.

I had fallen asleep in Eric's apartment whilst he read to me, and he had just climbed over me to get to the door.

I frowned and slowly sat up, a yawn escaping my lips as Eric yanked the door open.

"What?" He snapped.

I couldn't hear the reply from the person outside, but Eric's next words made my heart pound.

"What about the initiates?"

I turned my head to look at him, wondering what was going on.

"Shit." He grumbled under his breath, his hand gripping the door tightly. "I'll come right away."

I climbed to my feet as he pushed the door shut and rushed towards the bedroom.

"What's happened?" I questioned, feeling incredibly uneasy.

"James." He called out from the other room, anger filling his voice. "He's tried to kill Freddie."

I choked on my breath and spluttered out; "What?!"

Eric remerged, pulling a sweater over his head. "I need to get to the Chasm."

"I'm coming with you." I stated, brushing my hair out of my face.

He stared at me for a second, his eyes searching my face for something, then nodded once. "You stay out of the way."

"Okay."

He grabbed his keys from the table, then rushed over to the door. I hurriedly followed behind, and the two of us rushed down to the Chasm. My tired legs slowed us down a little, and if it hadn't of been such an urgent matter, I'd have just given up.

When we arrived at the Chasm, I let out a loud gasp at the sight in front of me.

James was kicking and screaming whilst being pinned down on the floor by two Dauntless men.

A Dauntless woman, Nathan and Talulah were knelt around a crumpled figure... and I instantly knew it was Freddie.

Eric marched straight over to James, and I watched as he ordered for him to calm down, before he threatened to knock him unconscious. I shuddered, knowing that it was not an empty threat, and I hoped that for his own sake, James would stop flailing around.

"Jac!" Nathan called, and I turned my head to look at the four of them on the floor.

I rushed over to them, and dropped at Freddie's side. He was covered in blood, his face battered - cuts marring his cheeks and underneath his eye sockets, his right eye was swollen shut and blood had dripped down from a gash above his eyebrow. His left arm was hanging limply across his abdomen, and he had cuts all over his right knuckles. The sight of him like this made my heart sink.

"What happened?" I questioned, my throat dry.

"James tried to push him off of the Chasm." Nathan told me.

I looked up at him to see a grimace on his face, then glanced at Talulah, meeting her bloodshot eyes, seeing the tear stains on her rosy cheeks.

I felt a sudden bout of anger surge through me, and I balled my hands into fists, my nails digging into my palms. "I could kill him!" I spat, suddenly liking the idea of Eric knocking him unconscious.
