Authors note; I was unsure what kind of test they'd have, how advanced it would be and etc, so I figured that I'd go with the kind that they had in the eighties. The very first E.T.P, where pee was mixed with an already mixed solution, then the pregnancy would be determined by whether there was a brown ring in it or not after a particular amount of time. I thought that Dauntless probably wouldn't have an advanced method of finding out, not like Erudite would, and they'd probably not want to go to a doctor right away.

"What took you so long??" Talulah demanded to know as soon as I entered the apartment. "I'm freaking out here!"

"You don't even want to know what took me so long." I grumbled and ran a hand through my hair.

She frowned and crossed the room to stand in front of me. "Did you get it?"

"Yeah." I pulled it out of my pocket, then held it out to her.

She slowly took it, then peeled it out of the bag. The way she stared at the box was the way someone would probably stare at an extraterrestrial being.

"Open it then..." I urged.

She dropped the bag on the floor and slowly began to open it. "Do you know how it works?" She questioned.

"I read the box... it was only basic instructions but I think I understood."

She pulled the kit out and inhaled sharply. "I can't do this."

"Talulah, this isn't something you can avoid." I told her. "You need to know."

Her hands were shaking, and so was the kit. I stepped closer to her and gently removed it from her hands.

"Come on... lets go in the bathroom." I had to nudge her in the back to get her to move, but eventually she stiffly walked into the room on our right.

I rested the kit on the sink, then read the box properly, checking the kit as I did so.

"Are you ready?" I asked her.

She hesitantly nodded. "Yeah..."

"Right, you have to pee in this," I picked up a small round tub and handed it to her. "And then we use the pipette to put a few drops of it into this solution here." I lifted up the vial and the small dropper tool.

She looked at the tub in her hand. "I don't need to pee..."

I sighed. "Just try."

She bit her lip, then also let out a sigh. "Okay. Turn around."

"Okay." I turned so that my body was facing away from her and inspected the liquid in the vial I was holding. I wondered what chemicals were in this and whether it was a good idea for me to be holding it. After the amount of nightmare experiments I'd had in chemistry at school, it was probably fairly risky for me to be trusted with any kind of solution.

I heard a clink, then the sound of toilet paper, then the sound of material moving.

"I'm done." Talulah told me, and I looked over my shoulder at her before turning around completely. She flushed the toilet, then picked up the small tub from where she'd rested it on the floor by her feet.

"Drop it in here." I told her, and held out the vial and the pipette. I noticed her hands were shaking as she lifted the tub to and started to drop the pee into the liquid. "Please don't get pee on my hands..."

She giggled half-heartedly, but it was clear that she was petrified.

Luckily, she did it steadily and once she was done, I turned back to the instructions.
